Are the ones from California car cover company any better than the Original California car dusters? I noticed there are the original ones and then ones that have have grey fibers. Any comments? Thanks

I've used the "California Duster", the one with the red fibers coated in a waxy parrafin and it seems to work just fine.

I've never used one with the gray fibers, just the one with the red fibers (California Duster?). I've been happy with its performance so far (4 years of use).

I also use the California Duster seems to work alright when it gets to dirty I just toss it and buy a new one.

Thanks guys. The only reason I asked was that Griots sells the one with the grey fibers. I don't think theirs is any better than the original California duster. Thanks

Swiffer Duster all the way. :D

Not to be confused with the swiffer sweeper, the Swiffer Duster works just as well as the California duster. It’s dirt-cheap. Use it a couple of times and toss it out, since you can buy them in 5 and 10 packs. You can find them everywhere (no stores around here carry the California duster, so I have to mail order them).

Best of all, the swiffer duster is not as big and noticeable as the big red Cal duster, so you can discreetly dust your car off (especially that rear bumper) in the parking lot at work before putting the car cover on, without attracting the attention and ribbing of all your co-workers. :p

Seriously though, I actually use the Cal Duster and the Swiffer on daily basis. The Cal duster is larger, so you can dust the hood, roof, and trunk real fast. The smaller swiffer is great for all the small areas, curves, and vents. It gets right in-between the vent louvers and gets the dust right out. The swiffer is also easier to maneuver inside the car as well, to dust off the dash, console, doors, sills, and vents.

Just remember with all these dusters that they are just that “dusters.” Never apply any pressure to the car with them. Anything that doesn’t come off with a couple of feather light passes will need to be washed off, or you risk scratching the paint.

I heard the best one is from OXO it's new and the handle is made of rubber: meaning no scratches from the handle...it also doesn't leave any parafin streaks like the Cali duster does.

The rubber handle is an improvement over the Cal duster, but you only get streaks using the Cal duster if you are using it on a hot car that has been sitting in the sun (which you are not supposed to do).

[edit] I almost forgot, the instructions state that you should leave the duster out of the bag for a couple of days on some newspaper in order to let the excess wax "leach" out of the mop head when you first buy it. If you don't that will cause streaks to happen first couple of times you use it as well. Basically if you follow all the instructions it works great.

To each their own though, so if you like the rubber handled OXO duster better, you can find it here:

damn! I guess that's the problem I was facing. I'd wipe the car down when I got back from a drive....in CA, the sun can get pretty brutal. Thanks for the head's up!!;)

Hey Spinner, I didn't notice that you had a Berlina Black NSX. Talk about hot in the sun. I'm surprised you didn't hear the Cal duster start sizzling when you used it.

[sniff][sniff] I smell birthday candles, is somebody having a party around here? :D
