I need suggestion on lowering my 04 NSX, I had just got 18 front and 19" rear on wheels, how much more can I lower it???

Since I do not plan to race this car on track, which way should I lower it by, spring or coilover???

Also, I live in the Inland Empire of So. Cal. any suggestion on where to take it for modifications and services, I want someone with experiences on NSX and won't cost me arms and legs in the process.

Thank you all

Using aftermarket wheels doesn't necessarily lower the car at all, and in many cases actually raises it. What tire sizes are you using?

What is the "Inland Empire of So. Cal."? Sounds like a movie set in Medieval Days! :D Anyway, I would suggest asking on the Southwest Regional forum on NSXprime; I'm sure you can get some recommendations there.

My X came with Tein RA's which lowered the car pretty low. They are adjustable (thank god, I RAISED mine back up a bit so I dont have to worry about every little bump), but from what Ive read on PRIME, they are a good choice.

Where in the I.E. are you?? I was in living in Corona until a month ago.

Ride Adjustment

Most go with springs and/or shocks and/or sway bars to adjust height and ride/handling. Or as mentioned the Tein type system would allow more detailed adjustment but at a cost. Comfort and ride should be highly considered if you will not track the car. Good luck with the car. Ken the Inland Empire is the Corona/Riverside/San Bernardino area, inland from L.A. about an hour. California Speedway in car-speak!

Then a few questions need to be asked:

1) Are you interested in a subtle drop? Aggressive? In between?
2) How much do you want to spend?

If you're talking lower cost, change out the springs. From a mild drop to aggressive drop, you should look into Zanardi springs, Eibach springs, and then H&R springs.

If you're looking at something more, from the same mild drop to aggressive drop, I'd suggest first the complete JDM NA2 NSX-R suspension that Science of Speed just announced for an approx. .5" drop or the the TEIN RA and RE systems for a much lower ride height.

Thank you all for these great suggestions. Let me give you a little more spec, I hope these can help you to help me make up my mind.

I'm currently running 225/35-18 fr and 275/30-19 rr, on Bridgestone S03 tires. I want to lower it without rubbing, I had spoke to a couple of shop and got the following quotes. Comptech Springs $400 a set plus installation of $200 (1" drop). Eibach Springs $450 a set plus installation of $200 (1.2" drop), Tein Coilover $1500 a set plus installation of $250 (adjustable).

I want to slowly upgrade my baby, if you have other suggestions for any of the upgrades please let me know. I had done the wheels and tire, next is lowering, than exhause and header(Hopefully I can have the later 3 done in 6 month. I want to personalize it without making it look cheap. Open for any suggestions.

Thanks

James Lee

I'll be at the Saleen Tour this Sat. will you be there???
Do you know any good service center in this area for NSX???

I moved to Irvine. I will be at the Saleen tour and I will check my records to see where the car was serviced before I bought it. :D

Those sizes have raised your car by approximately 0.2 inch at each end.

That's going to be difficult. The problem with those tire sizes is that the front tires are wider than stock (by 10 mm treadwidth) and have a larger outer diameter (by 1.8 percent), both of which makes them more susceptible to rubbing. 215/35-18 might have been a better choice; if your suspension changes result in rubbing, you may want to switch to that size.

it depends on what u mean by upgrades.

most here would see the 18/19 rims as a downgrade. slower and heavier and your car is less responsive.

also plenty would see the big drop as a downgrade as well... could mess up suspension geometry. there is a big argument about that. something to think about thoguh. I hear over an inch and a half starts to really bug things out.

i am taking it that u r into aesthetic upgrades and not performance upgrades.

if so my fav one is losing the engine bay cover to reveal the engine. tint your window so that it does not get direct sunlight. it is kinda performance oriented as it weights like 14 lbs.

lowering

awrsomr1,

I have lowered my car with eibach and now it is lowered with tein RA. Pm me and we can get together. I'm in Redlands.

I would go with Bilsteins and stock springs, with the Bilsteins on the lower perch. It gives you a 0.8 inch drop, but its still noticeable.

Don't go too low!!

I have 285/30/19 rear and 215/35/18 front. The previous owner put H&R springs on and hated the rough ride so he had the stock springs cut and it actually rides very nice.

I have no idea how much it lowered the car but the front '97 lip and Vinnies side skirts sit exactly 3" from the ground. It looks awesome but scares the hell out of you when you approach speed bumps or steep inclines, etc. The front tires rubbed a little until I had the inside wheel well aprons raised up a little.

The body shop that put the side skirts on asked if I wanted to put on the skids they put on the bottom of airboats so they can slide across roads from one lake to another...Ha, Ha!

Which Bilsteins model? And how much are they??

I want to lower my car as well. Probably with Tein's. How much have people lowered their cars? I want a nice lowered look without too many problems with driveways and such. Not real aggressive, but fairly low. Can anyone post some suggestions? What's considered a little lowering and what is considered a lot?
Thanks,
ryan

Bilstein only sells 1 kind for the NSX. Daliracing sells them for $535 (all 4).

On my previous NSX I had eibach springs and TE37s, my tires would rub against the inner fender and I also had alot of negative camber (which is actually common with lowered NSXs).

On my current NSX, I decided just to use the bilsteins on the lower perch, and to me it was the perfect height. No rubbing, and everything can be aligned to factory specs.

I have to agree with RyRy210...Bilsteins on lower perch is perfect..not too low and just low enough to get rid of the space in the wheel well for better looks...If you don't mind driving down to Oceanside, I would take it to Nick at Applied Motorsports..all he works on is NSX's and he is great with lowering and making sure you get the most out of your tires with his alignments...It's about an hour drive south from you....Give him a call...760-439-0959
