Do you have a Paddock/Magnaflow exhaust system? Would you be interested in a silencer?

I am running a Paddock/Magnaflow system, it sounds great but it's a little loud so I am developing a silencer that fit in the tips.

If you are interested in something like this let me know. The proto types should be ready later this week:D

I am interested..but would like to know the sound difference..Granted the exhaust is louder than i expected but for some reason..i am getting use to it.

let me know how it comes out..and if you can get a sound meter to see the difference. Also the droning inside the cabin at 2-3k can be bothersome.

Would love to hear the F1 sound of the vtec again..

let me know how it turns out..please..

I'm in.. I have the Paddock/Magnaflow with the 4" tips.. It was a little loud for me as well but like Wheelman said, I am also kind of getting used to it.. I was planning to get a quieter exhaust but if you come up with silencers, that would work..

I agree with Wheelman that the droning at around 2500 RPM is bothersome..

Let me know what you come up with and how much $$..

Can you also post some pics of the prototypes both on and off the car?

Thanks

I will be posting pictures, the Prototypes should be very nice, billet Aluminum, CNC machined holes, and even my initials.

Your initials??? lol.. like a true artist..

cool. let me know.. did you think of a price yet?

I don't have any costs on the prototypes because the shop Forman is my Brother but with this kind of interest I will be having him do a quote. With a quote and a little research I should be able to come up with a price. I also have several ideas to improve and simplify them.

cool. just let me know..

Another question to consider is, 'how long will it last'?

Will the material be able to stand up against wide open throttle blasts over periods of time. I definitely wouldn't want something temporary. Mine has the 4inch tips also..

Will the silencer change the sound or just the sound level?

Last time I went out with some friends we measured the sound of the exhausts with my sound meter (forgot the readings but the magnaflow was at upper 80's decibal at idle and at wide open throttle on the road almost 100..)

Magnaflow was loudest (97 T)
Flowmaster 2nd (93)
RM dtm tips (97 T)

this comparison is at idle and with revving the engine

We didn't get to go too in-depth due to lunch time accident but the consensus was the magnaflow was loudest but it does sound good..

Count me in as well. I love the sound but wouldn't mind the option for a road trip.

Wheelman

As mentioned above the prototypes are Aluminum and should hold up well. A Stainless Steel version is also being considered.

I don't know how the sound will be affected but my first goal is noise reduction. I am already thinking of how I can change the design to simplify it and also allow for some adjustment so the user can tune the sound/volume. :D

Picked up the prototypes today and installed them. They reduce the noise level by about 10%-20% depending on the RPM and load. They also mellow out the sound taking by taking away some of the empty pipe echo. Also with the windows open you can hear a slight whistle from the holes with each exhaust pluse.
These expand to hold in position so there is no driling required. :D

Now the important part, the cost. Because these are one of a kind and custom made Billet Aluminum the price is $300 per pair in one pair lots. That price can be improved if I can run a larger batch. So let me know the more people the lower the cost. :D

Next week I will pick up a sound level meter so I can get some #'s. Spyderman I will put your name on the list along with any others that have real interest and when I have 3-4 names I will have the machine work re-quoted and see how much I can improve the $300 cost.

BrianK,

I understood that Paddock uses the narrowest canister (4x9) that Magnaflow produces. There are Magnaflow canisters (5x9 or 5x11) that are a bit wider than the ones that are currently included in the system.
The price difference among the canisters with different sizes are minimal.

Do you think that it would be more cost efficient if you simply change the canister (or have paddock change the canister for you)?

Using a slightly larger canister/muffler will reduce the sound level.

Tiger,

I'm not sure if you remember, but I had both canisters on my car at one point. I had the larger one first, now I have the smaller. The larger one wasn't very much different, if anything it seemed to drone more and at a different RPM. IMO I think the smaller one looks and sounds the best.

I emailed Paddock about the noise level and they suggested replacing the muffler with a quieter one for $250. Not counting shipping to and from Wisconsin.

FYI: Tour of the Saleen Factory today revealed that the Saleen Supercar S7 uses a Magnaflow muffler. For $450,000 + I expected titanium or berilium materials at least. I know that Magnaflow has a Titanium exhaust system for the S2000 for $2300.00.
