How do you clean the engine cover?

It's got that weird, fuzzy, sandpaper texture thingy on it....I was cleaning the divider glass window with a paper towel and accidently wiped the paper on the cover.

The texture caught shreds of the paper onto it and now it looks nasty....How do you guys clean it? Anyone ever clean it without ruining it before?

vacuum

Normally I just vacuum it with the small brush attachment. Don't scrub hard and eventually it comes off.

Take a strip of 2" masking tape about 12" long. Tape the two ends to each other, so the adhesive surface is outwards.

Slip the "circle of tape" over your hand and gently pat the fuzzy surface of the engine cover to pick up the lint. When the tape has picked up so much debris that it does not stick anymore, roll the "cirlce of tape" around your hand 180° to expose fresh adhesive.

damn...that's a totally unexpected way of cleaning it....I guess, it works huh? I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, I was worried about "taking" some of the material off...seems to come loose with scrubbing.

Try one of these Lint Rollers you can get them at any Chain Store Walmart has them.

All it is is sticky tape...It's not like it's going to tear the foam off I used it all the time when I had my cover on with no problems.

That's what I ended up using. :) I tried using a lint brush before, but it was ineffective. I tried vacuuming too, but that took too long!

LOL that's hilarious I use lint rollers on my clothes, and when I run out I used Andy's tape-around-the-hand method :D

The blue masking tape works especially well for this IMO.

Or use a lint brush that is what I used to do. Try not to drag anything over the surface or you may have no surface left.

Anyone try using "flock" spray paint or something? Can't remember the exact term or name, but it hads this weird "furry" material over the item...similar to what we have on the engine cover...

lint roller baby!!!.............and I use masking tape for the little felt coin tray thingy near the shifter:):)
