CV boot repair

I noticed that my right rear CV boot(inner) was leaking badly so I need to replace it. I was quoted $350(with parts) to replace one side. Is this a fair price? Also, my left inner boot is starting a small leak, should I get this repaired also or can I wait a little? Is there any way to tighten it up for now? I'd like to get it all fixed but non of the dealers around here have the parts. I ordered 2 from Goodson thinking that I'd need to replace one side only and I'm planning on getting it done this Wed as I need to leave to the track on Thurs! I suppose I can get two more overnighted...

Does the boot have a tear in it or is it leaking from the fat end? If it is a tear, go ahead and have it replaced. Several of my Honda's have leaked from the fat end of the boot, I was told this is because the rubber can shrink slightly over time. You can get a new clasp for it, I just use a universal clasp that are cheap at the parts store. You need the kind that open up to get around the boot.

Good luck

I tore a boot installing shocks on the cruzer. It cost me about $350 to replace it, which was a little higher than I was originally quoted. My tech did not have that much experience with the NSX in this area.

I'm ending up paying $630 for labor for both sides at the local dealer. I got the parts from Goodson which cost me about $120(partly because I had to get freight twice since I ordered only 2 initially). I know I'm paying more than I probably should, but I need to get this done quick so I have no choice. Oh well. At least I won't have to worry about it after this.

I got mine installed at a local shop, both sides for $320.

I ordered the boots from goodson with my NSXCA discount and gave them to the local shop.. They were like 18 bucks.

see above

I just had all four replaced last week.. $320 and I supplied the parts at $18.00 (club discount) per boot replace kit. Acura of Augusta -- highly recommend.

Damn I'm getting ripped off. But then I got the same quote from 2 dealers. I guess the dealers around here just suck. :(

Well, now the dealer calls me and says they can't finish the job today and will have to be done tomorrow, although they told me it's a one day job.

Now I am scared that not only they are not going to finish the job, but they will not do the job right. I have to leave to the track tomorrow night so I'm stuck. This really sucks :(

How long did it take for yours to get done??

Dropped off at 8 and I had it back around 2 I think. They did say it was more work than they thought it would be.

alignment?

Should I get alignment done after this job is done? I think I should but I maynot be able to due to time limitation...

If they are careful and mark the alignment BEFORE they remove the lower a-arms, an alignment is not really necassary. I would have to agree that about $320 is a fair price for all four boots(both sides fixed).

I pay $75 for a full four wheel alignment done by a very competent tech that knows how to use the Hunter:)

In some cases where there is a leak but no actual tear in the boot, it could be that the band has snapped. I have had two bands break. The band stays on and looks OK, but the spot weld that holds a piece of it together breaks, and so the band is not tight enough to keep the grease in.
