easier said than done for some us pigmentally challenged folks!

But is the ad for cars or girls inept at washing them!:p

My best friend is Japanese and she doesn't tan, either. We were both sitting in the sun today waiting for class to start and I tanned while she shielded herself from burning. :p

Theres always the spray on tan booths ... although they dont have any harmful UV rays .... I wonder how safe the fumes are to breath in ?

I dunno if she's american-japanese or japanese-japanese but the latest trend in japan and many other parts of asian is to be very pale. They sell all kinds of whitening cremes. My family in singapore get grossed out by my mom and sister when we go visit because they get so tan hehe.

My friend is actually fifth-generation Japanese and she jokes about being the most "white-washed" Japanese girl you'll ever meet, hehe. She tries to tan, but her skin is sensitive to the sun. The funny thing is that her dad, who is full Japanese, is so tan, he looks Filipino, but her mom and brother look starkly Japanese in contrast. She turned out looking like something in the middle. :)

I don't quite understand the whole "pale" trend. Maybe you can explain it. It would be impossible for me to pull that off! Haha :p

Its an asian thing......I know that when they judge beauty there is a relationship between clean white skin and purity.

It was a trend a while back, but the younger kids dont mind the tans at all ( i teach at a junior primary, but if someone is too dark then they are teased, one the girls is called brazil on account of her naturally dark skin.

The older teachers like my skin 'cause i'm 'shiroi' (whiteish). I't sucks when you're able to reflect the sun:p The pale trend was popular for centuries, the geisha girls wore all white paint to look whiter. The reason was that the aristocracy would always be inside so they didn't tan, workers/farmers always worked outside so they were tanned. The connection became you were presumed lower educated if you were tanned as you had a less important/manual labour job.

Yeah, when I was younger I used to hate being out in the sun because I would tan so fast. Then one day, my aunt said to me, "Why do you hate being tan? Don't you know people pay good money to have skin like yours?" She had a good point. After that, I wasn't so conscious of it. :)

Bah! She's using the same sponge to wash her wheels as the rest of the car! Oh the humanity!
