UPS is incompetent...grrrrrrrrrrr!

So I buy car parts of the net and had it shipped over from Atlanta. This was Wednesday and I opted for 2 day air shipping so I can get it by Friday. UPS comes on Fri and I see the guy looking around his truck looking for my package. I speak to him and he says he has me on his clipboard but my box isn't there. He proceeds to tell me that they have a new "system" and packages are getting lost left and right. Excuse me, but ask me if I care! He says he'll be back later that day if he *finds* my stuff. He never came.

I finally call UPS and tell them off. I get the "sorry sir, it shows that it's still in transit. We should be able to get it to you by Monday." WTF? grrrr. Great, now work on my car is going to have to be put off because of their incompetence. They said they'll give me a refund for my 2-day-supposedly-air. Big whoop.

I've never had problems with FedEx and they deliver on SATURDAYS too! Brown truck sucks.

BTW, I don't work/affiliated with FedEx.

Edit: sorry, I'm so pissed off that I didn't look to see which forum I'm putting this in. Mods please move to Off Topic. thanks.

end rant.

That sucks. Unfortunately I have had problems with all the shipping companies. FedEx once lost one of my rims. It took about two months to get the insurance covered and have a new rim shipped.

Last week i send a box on next-day-delivery to a town 30 miles from here. The box is now in the southern of Italy.....lol

So i ask them when it's due to the receiver, and they come up with 'in a few days', funny, coz i can send a package on next day delivery, but when it goes wrong and they found the package, it takes them 5 4 days to get it to the right adress.

Btw, TNT that was.

I have to say that I agree with you 100%! When I started my own business, my father gave me only 2 pieces of advice:

1) Get an American Express card - they don't treat you like a child.

2) Get a FedEx account - they may cost more, but over time it is worth it.

I have to say that both tips were right on the money. FedEx doesn't care how much money I spend every month as long as I pay my bills. So over 10 years, I may spend $1,000 per month or $30,000 per month and they have never cared. They might call me to verifiy a purchase, but I have never had a purchase refused, even one where I purchased a $30,000 car on my AMEX Platinum Card.

As to UP vs. FedEx there is no comparison. UPS lost a shipment of server memory that was critical to a US Army system upgrade. The small memory box slipped down between the wheel well and the shipping rack inside the truck. They found it 6 months later when they cleaned out the truck and attempted delivery... 6 MONTHS LATER! Needless to say we have NEVER used UPS since then.

By comparison, FedEX Express has never lost a package in the 10 years that we have used them exclusively and in the 20 years before that my Father's Company used them. One time, FedEx Ground delivered a package without a signature and the recipient claimed they never got it (recipient lied). But, it was insured and FedEx issued a check for the full amount within a week. No problems.

So, all I can say is that UPS had damaged parts for my Porsches, lost shipments for my computers and generally delivered stuff whenever they felt like it. I have had UPS Guaranteed 2 day shipments take 3 days and ground shipments take a week when it is only coming from 250 miles away. Go figure.

In my book, I never ask "what can Brown do for me"... the answer to that questions is, "NOTHING!"

Most of the time, UPS comes through. As do its competitors.

However, FedEx (both Ground and Air) is consistently less expensive than UPS, and a lot more convenient to use.

I dropped off a package at ups on Tue last week, after two days I still did not see it in the tracking system so I went back to the drop off and checked. They at least had record that it had been received. They said don't worry until after the scheduled delivery date. I use UPS so the packages are tracked and the recipient can see that it is on the way.

Guess I need to look into FedEx shipping :)

Why didnt you use Fedex then? Not trying to be a jerk.. just curious.

FedEx does that, too. In fact, with FedEx it's also easy to generate a bar coded shipping label and automatically send an e-mail to the recipient with the package's tracking number and status.

Cold Shower

Joel - calm down. You throwing temper tantrums will not get your parts delivered any sooner.

I have had delivery "issues" with FedEx and UPS and USPS.....ranting about it doesn't solve the problem. At least, ranting to this forum will not help. Go to the source.....and.....be polite. This tact yields better results than jumping up and down like a jackass.

Love, toodles and kisses. Hugs too.

Who here is perfect? Get my point?

I don't like UPS either, though my company use them more than the FEDEX. What a lot of general users didn't see is that UPS could be more than the FEDEX for you and me... but for some business, especially those with quite a bit of business, UPS actually offer more discount. This is the norm for the trucking business...

that said, as soon as Tire rack had FEDEX, I never use UPS to get my tires again... EVerytime I ordered from TireRack with ups shipping the tires came a week to 3 weeks late. With Fedex, never more than a day.

AndyVecsey's probably right, there's nothing you can do at this point but just keep calling UPS and hopfully get to some people that they care and do something about it. More often calling the shipper would work too (in case the shipper/seller is willing to have a good cust. service..) They probably have some sales rep from UPS working closely with them, and those will be the person who care the most, and, maybe, just maybe speed things up.

When I order tires from the Tire Rack, they ship them UPS Ground and they show up the next day, every time.

I've used them both on a regular basis. Depends on which drop point I am closest to, or what I am shipping. I have also had problems with both... Once UPS lost almost $100K in computer memory, Feds came in to investigate, took almmost 2 months to straighten out... Never found out who stole the memory... They did replace it though.. which leads me to believe they found out what happened... Almost lost a big contract due to that..

My Tire rack orders almost always come from FedX, I must say that I have never had a problem with FedX, I know that eventually I will. This just happens.. FedX is usually cheaper for me. I shipped two sets of the same wheel and tire combo the other day, used both carriers. Fedx was $20 cheaper. I didn't ask why. They may have me listed for a discount rate.

USPS, I would use if their tracking system was better.

The U. S. Postal Service is a good choice for small items. Priority Mail is $3.85 for up to one pound and arrives in 2-3 days. Tracking is an extra 40 cents or so.

Advantages of USPS: Post offices and mailboxes are everywhere. Low cost for small items.

Disadvantages of USPS: If you have a package over 1 pound, you MUST hand it to a person at the post office. Tracking costs extra. Insurance costs extra (UPS and FedEx provide $100 insurance at no charge).

I don't know if I'm being impatient..It was only been a week and the package is coming from the USA to Canada...but UPS seems so slow to update tracking...

my last tracking was on friday..

Today is Monday afternoon..I think after almost 3 days (even on weekends) the item would have moved and arrived somewhere else for a scan....

side note..

Does anyone know if UPS charges brokerage, customs, and tax after you get your package or is it included in the initial billing..?

I know Fedex sends the buyer another bill for brokerage, customs, and tax after 1 - 1 1/2 week after parcel has arrived..

FedEx & DHL/Airborne express are the way to go when you want a rush delivery. UPS takes too long, and messes up too often to be worth the extra price. I only us UPS when sending large bulk items that don't need to be there in under 5 days. USPS is bad too when it comes to 1 day express mail. They are constantly leaving slips at my door saying I wasnt home when I was home all damn day. This has happend to me 3x in the last 2 months.

Personally, I have had the least number of problems with FedEx, although UPS has been ok overall.

About 8 or so years ago I recall reading in Consumer Reports a test where they shipped 100's of packages between multiple locations using UPS, USPS, and FedEx.

As far as likelyhood of not loosing packages, they ranked (best to worst):

1. FedEx
2. UPS
3. USPS

Anyone know if they've done a more modern update of that test?

UPS tracking is completely out of wack....
