He is a great guy and deserves a lot of credit for keeping Prime alive and running. The meal was great (thanks Armando), and we had some good laughs.

Anyway, there was some interesting ideas about the future of NSX Prime. For the meantime we may have a new webmaster and possibly a registration fee. Some of noobs and trolls are getting a bit out of hand. I'm sure Armando will speak up somewhat about this.

Once again, THANKS ARMANDO.

They are looking at doing a fee on Ferrari chat to get rid of the riff raff.

I don't think we have much a of problem on this site.

i have had the pleasure of having dinner with lud at nsxpo. He is indeed a great guy and has done an amazing amount for our community.

I think a fee would be great ...... i second the motion. Another idea would be to create a owners section where only Nsx owners can access it.

I do not think an owner section would be that great: we would simply all go there and leave the "General NSX Discussion" forum to trolls-only and BS-itter. :p

A fee is a lot better, most people not really interested wouldn't even pay 5$ or 10$ for it.

Furthermore the paying system is already on place ("support NSX prime" on top of the page):

...or click here!

I agree: Lud did an incredible work over the past 4+ years! If you ever drop in my area, I would be very happy to invite you for dinner!

We cannot thank Lud enough. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have this thriving NSX community.

I strongly disagree with the registration fee idea; i think it would have a negative impact.

1) Yes, it might get rid of trolls, but you lose infrequent enthusiasts with a genuine interest in NSX's.
2) No many people will like paying for what should be a "free" service in the cyberworld.
3) The goodwill donation is likely to generate more income to maintain NSXprime than a flat fee. For example, some members have donated $50+ -- whereas if they've paid a flat $5 fee, they don't need the need to pay any more.
4) Expectations of NSXprime increase; since people have "paid" for the service, they feel they have a right to complain during outages/slow connections/timing-belt-flame-wars/etc.. The same if somebody posts a question, they have the right to get the correct answer.
5) It creates a very closed, self-centered community. That might be desirable to the ferrari snobs, but it's not something that suits NSXprime's unspoken policy of "Open Forums".

If trolls are THAT bad, perhaps a consideration could be a "Registered Patrons-Only" forum would be a better consideration (so we can talk about who the trolls are :D). Or there's a 7-day waiting period before being able to post.

These are my thoughts and opinions. I stand by them, but I don't mean to start any flame-wars. Feel free to agree or disagree.

I agree that without Lud this forum would most likely not exist. Three cheers for LUD!

The best solution for the ‘TROLL’ issue is to ignore them.

Who dictates what should be a free service. If someone is willing to put their hard-earned money and their effort into something, then why should they not be compensated?

The ‘good will donation’ is probably the better of the two options for generating income from the site to support the site. In order to keep people aware of and attuned to the donation aspect, Lud could set up a mechanism that requires response to a ‘request for donations’ on a weekly or monthly basis.

This forum should, IMO, remain open to all who wish to participate, and are willing to register. Keeping it this way will, IMO, foster the free and open exchange of ideas/information. For those who merely want to peruse the forums without posting, the site should be totally open.

We had a great time last night over dinner and a few drinks although Rob, you guys missed the after party....... I think one more dinner with Lud and I might sway him to make me a moderator then all hell will break loose on the site :), AndyV as co moderator of course. Thanks to everyone that showed and thanks to Lud for keeping this site up and running and allowing me to spend endless hours not making money while we argue about exhaust sounds......

Well Joanie felt like she was hit by a truck this morning. But next time I'm definitely up for the after hours party.

Sorry to hear about Joanie, but I told her those Sour Apple Martinis sneak up on you

She wasn't sick or anything, just felt a little $hitty. But she still went to get nails done this morning! :D

for those occasional times that we get to work with hangovers, we go out to an aircraft and put on an oxygen mask. that wakes us up right away. nothing like pure oxygen.

I think supporting NSXPrime is the most important point. As Gheba mentioned above and others have mentioned before.

An idea that was talked about in the past was to do a “pay as you post” concept. Where as a member created or commented on a post, a predetermined amount would be deducted from their membership fee. If we did not have too many posts that month we would get credit into the next and/or next month and so on. If we exceeded our monthly allotment (what ever that was determined to be) then our membership fee would increase appropriately. This would discourage Members from posting and commenting just to build up their post counts. It should keep initial post from "trolls" at a minimum also.

It seems that some among us are not always pleased when someone visits and does not understand the established decorum here on Prime. At times it is difficult to ignore new members because we do not know what their intentions are. I think some times we may scare away someone that is potentially going to add to the community, just not on their first few posts. When some of us respond to their questions or statements inquisitively to assist them we have ether opened the “door” for a shared learning experience or we have opened a can of worms. We will not know this until we allow them to share our domain with us.

OK, last point, (Sorry);
Let’s say the fee per post is .05 cents.
A member with 5 posts a month would pay .25 a month.
A member with 10 posts equals .50
With 100 posts = $5.00
And so on, but 100 posts a month is the max for most of the big posters.
So you can see these are not big numbers for the members, but on the other hand added together they are big numbers for Prime.

The big question that remains is, to implement this (to be fair to all) should we look at back post?
Let’s just say we did; there seems to about four to six major groups out there. The <200 group, the > 200 and <500, the >500 to 1000, the >1000 to 3000, the 3000 to 5000 and > 5000. Let us say that there were 100 members in the first group, 50 in the second, 50 in the third, 10 in the next and, 10 in the next and 10 in the last

<td valign="bottom" style="width: 155px; that is just ridiculous..

People alrready donate to prime... why do we need to pay money for something that should be free.

There are ads on the site. Surely they get some income also.

Charging by post is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Maybe it is OK for people that have only "20" posts...

May be this site should stay the way it is and do whatever is neccessary for the hscprime or whatever the 2nd gen. nsx site name is.

Please, donot even think that charging is a good idea. This is a WONDERFUL website and country as the way it is. To start charging because of the trolls and differences would be WOW! It would be very negative; heck I get kind of offended just think about it. 5 or 10,000 bucks out of my pocket doesn't make a difference to me. The difference is the purpose that it is going to. Look at how many NSXes and MR2, equal how much money I have spent on them alone.

Why should it be free. This would have to be the "ridiculous" idea.

Why should it not be free? I has been free since day one. We do not have a problem with trolls except once and a while.

If the site is costing a fortune, then maybe we need to look into something to help out. If it is just to keep trolls out, I think you are going to really hurt the site.

I think only the true die-hard people would pay and we would probably loose 3/4 of the posters. We would just have people that log on and read. Pretty soon the site will not be worth coming back to.

Just my .02...

Although the conversation regarding a pay site did come up, it was just a discussion over dinner and drinks, we also discussed many other things including world peace the weather and how some of the women in the restaurant managed to put on their pants without having them sewn on. Geeze guys if Lud decides to charge so be it, or Id like to see the line that will form to take over his duties maintaining our little playground.

I agree I think it's quite humorous that individualy we think this is "our" site.It is Luds' site, plain and simple.Prime is not about, or for, the most frequent or forceful posters(they may assume it is).It is what it is,and reflects the nsx owner/enthusiast demographic which makes for a good community.Luds great ability is to controll very lightly, sometimes too piano, but thats mho.

Where was I during that conversation?

Armando, aren't you the commander in charge for the week anyway. :D

Remember there was a buffer zone between the guys and you :) I dont think he put me in charge but he did say I could cuss on here...... LOL

This site certainly doesn't have to be free. That is surely the decision of Lud.

My observations are...

1. A "tax" on posting doesn't make sense. It would simply discourage participation. It reminds me of the saying... If a high tax on cigarettes is to discourage smoking, what is a high tax on income for?

2. If the current form of donations isn't working then a annual fee could be considered. I would certainly pay a reasonable fee.

3. I don't like the idea of charging money to control behavior. If there's riff-raff or flame baiting or any other kind of negative behavior, then that should be dealt with in an appropriate manner (i.e. warnings, suspension or banning).

4. I don't know of any other board that charges. I know someone mentioned that the Ferrari board is considering it. To me, it seems a bit elitist.

NSXPrime

I am a fairly new member (15 months) to NSXPrime. I would like to say that I really appreciate this site. I have not posted a lot but I have gained so much information from reading the Threads.

I would hate to see posting discouraged but I also understand the need for supporting the site and keeping certain types from ruining the site.

My opinion (not worth very much) is to ask for donations.

I think someone reading a Thread might have something to add by posting to a Thread that would help others. If they had to pay to post they might skip giving the information. Our loss.

Keeping information flowing is the life blood of this site. Whatever is done do not stop the flow of information.

Again I thank all who have helped this site become such a great place to gain and give information.

Thanks for the chance to post my opinion.
