I purchased my Kaiser Silver '99 3 weeks ago, and the only complaint I had was a rattle behind the console. Turns out, the little birdcage fan that draws cool air from the cabin into the space behind the console (to keep the stereo/electronics cool?) is the culprit. It is located behind the vent just infront of the e-brake. Does anyone know what this part is called, and how I might go about getting a replacement? Has anyone had a similar problem? Thanks for the help.

Hello, that fan is called an aspriator fan. It's job is to draw air passed a sensor to give your climate control an accurate reading of cabin temperature.

It's quite common for them to get noisy. I just repaired mine when I was doing some climate control work. Alot of good info here:http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Troubleshooting/noise.htm

You can try to blow compressed air into it but I don't think many have had luck with that. It's not really that hard to get it out, clean and lube, then reinstall.

Good luck

ps do a search on "aspirator" and I recall several very good threads on the subject.

Thanks a bunch guys. I had no idea what the proper name of the fan was, and I really didn't want to spend hours searching the service manual on Prime. I appreciate the help.

foxy - I did this repair myself, and I suck at all things mechanical. The first thing to try, as hlweyl noted, is to get a can of compressed air and insert the straw into the grate by the e-brake. Blow some air (but not too much, or it will freeze up) and see if that helps by cleaning off some dust from the fan blades. If it doesn't help, then you'll need to remove the center console and pull the fan out to manually clean it and make sure it is aligned on the steel pin. It is very easy if you follow the posted instructions here on Prime, and you'll save yourself $300+ by doing it yourself.

Good luck!
