advice? Sell S, buy X?

Ok...

I am fortunate that my dad doesn't want me to sell the S to just anyone. He doesn't want me to take a loss on it. He'd rather buy the car from me, so we still have it.

Should I take advantage of this, and then buy a used NSX? My fiance' is not hot on the idea, but I know she can't really do much. it's not going to wreck the relationship or anything, hahaha. She likes the idea below.

I ideally would like to resist the urge and pay off the S (should take 2 years, give or take some months) and then shop again for an X. I could have both cars then.

But visiting Prime everyday is not helping. Each and everyday I want to get an X more and more.

I have read threads on what many of you think about say someone younger coming out of college and being able to afford the car. I'm not in that boat. I think I know what I can afford and not afford.

Any comments good or bad are welcome as long as respect is still maintained :D

Since your just fishing for opinions, mine would be to pay off and keep the S2K. Its a great car that even after you get your NSX, you can use as your daily driver, or just keep as another toy in your stable.

I don't know if you already have any other cars (daily drivers), but for me, I can't get by with just an NSX to drive. I was originally thinking I was going to say "screw it" and use the NSX as my daily driver, but there are just some places where you simply can't drive or park an NSX without damage (or at least the fear of damage) occuring.

Of couse the main thing you need when owning a bunch of cars (other than the coin) is having the space to keep them. So that is something to keep in mind too.

As far as wanting an NSX now. NOW! NOW! :) I've been in that boat. But for me it actually took me two years to find my NSX. So if your wanting a mint condition NSX in a certain color, etc. then you probably can start shopping now, because unless you get really lucky (or aren't that pickey), it will probably take you a while to find the right NSX.

I would keep the S2000 and buy an NSX when you have the means to do so. Don't be in a rush to do anything, spend more time researching and get the car you really want. Personally I wouldn't get an older NSX as a daily driver/only car if I didn't have to. Good luck with your happy dilemma.

Thanks for the comments. I do have a BEAUTIFUL Chevy Venture minivan to drive as my daily car :) The NSX would be a pampered car as my S now is (the s used to be the daily). maybe as you said, shop for the car as I've been doing, and chances are I won't find the perfect car until I've already paid off the S. If I do run into a hot deal, what would you suggest at that point??? :D

I would sell the S and get the NSX, I do not see the point of two 2 seater in a new starting up family. A NSX for you and the minivan for the wife and kid to come:D :D :D

Great combo.

I say do whatchu gotta do! If you really want the NSX, get it. Life’s short, live it up while you can, you only live once. As long as you can afford it, then do it. Of course, that’s me, and look how miserable I am with my NSX....:D :D :D :D :D

1) Cry and Move on. :p

2) Beg, or borrow (won't recommend stealing) the coin needed, if and only if it is absolutely positively the most incredibly perfect NSX you have ever seen. Otherwise see suggestion #1. :D

Good point :D

Thats something else to think about Tom if you are getting married soon and planning to have kids, because once you have kids, you will need two family cars at times. You really can't put a child seat safely in an NSX or an S2K because of the passenger side airbags (unless you get an early NSX without the passenger airbag). Even then I would't put my child in my NSX. So you will either have to lose one of the two seaters, or have 4 cars. It you go the 4 car route, perhaps an Acrua TSX, MDX, Porsche Cayenne, or Cadillac CTS-V will fill that family man bill. ;)

ALLLLLLREADY... minivan = family car #1, and she currently has an Accord = family car #2 if needed.

So I think I'm clear on that front. My main conflict (if you want to call it that) is whether I should "give up" the S for an X, or just quit whining like a spoiled brat, and pay off the car I've purchased and then get the NSX afterwards....and REALLY be spoiled!

As great as it would to have both cars, I get the feeling that having both would eventually bring up the situation that my fiance says...you can only keep one. Although she says she thinks I should pay off the S first, I just know how this story has gone for SO many others.

I can tell, man I gotta see your ride in person...the avatar alone looks tasty. I've seen Kenny York's and both of Tommy Lee's here in Houston. Great cars.

there is no point to having two 2 seaters. Except that they are both great cars, and if I have the means, why not have both? :)

let's say I've paid 20K on the S. sell it, get the NSX, for let's say for simplicity's sake 30K. after all payments are done, Iv'e paid 50K for one NSX really.

If I pay off the S, for simplicity, 30K. get the NSX after, for say...40K since I will hopefully have more money at my disposal in a couple years...I have both cars at 70K spent. looks like I've made my mind up eh?

I'll stop crying and move on, unless that deal comes by :)

unless someone can argue otherwise...

DAMN I WANT IT NOW :D

Yes and no, I do not know about you, but once I have the NSX, I can not stop thinking what I want to do with it. I have a brand spanking new 04, before I got it, I say to myself, ABSOLUTELY NO MODS,

Next thing I know, I got wheels and tires, than I got the NSX-R CF replica wing, than lowering with Eibach. Now I think the Eibach is progressive and I don't like it, so I'm thinking about Tien.

The list just goes on and on. My solution, get and realy excellent condition NSX for $50k, spend $10k on MODs, and the other $10K on the wife.

Now we have a big happy family. :D :D :D

10K on the wife/fiance', HAHAHAHAHA she got to choose the house man! that's easily worth a few tens of thousands right?? hahahaha

so your "vote" is to sell the S, get a badass X, and make it badderasser. :D I know all about mod bugs. My S is the exact same.

Right On

I live in So. Cal. (so you know), just bought a house last Aug. spend 50K on remodeling (another 20K to go, not completely done yet), getting married next month (another 50K), got the NSX in Fed. 04. Spend another 5K or so on the mods already.

The fiance/wife ain't bitching, cause she got to remodel the house the way she want, get to have the wedding by Queen Mary, gets another wedding reception in Taiwan with her family and friends.

Man, I'm dry for at least 6 month before I can start doing other mods. :( :( :(

Maybe I'll start stealing from our remodeling/wedding funds to do the mods and tell her I have not got pay yet...

...after you get the X you will probably forget about the S...

Sell it and buy the X.

tom, keep the s2k and buy a X just like me!! so we both will have the same garage!!

except that I need TWO NSX's!!! not to mention the other cars!!!

but Tommy...I want an X now.. :/ can you hear me whine? hahahaha

If money isn't a problem, I'd say buy the nsx and be done with it. However if thats not the case, I'd say choose one of the two and get/keep it. IMO the differences between the two cars doesn't justify having both when funds are limited.

thanks for the comments everyone. The search is becoming more intense for lack of better words. So, we will see where this search takes me. I will heed the advice given here, and other threads.

F S X

Ok... the single guy (though once married but ended without any financial / emotional damage or children) approach...

Lose the Fiance`.. she will cost you more than an Enzo in the long run... no man should marry before age 40 anyway...

20's - finding out you have a favorite chair
30's - screwing many women in that chair
40's - screwing younger women in a more expensive chair
50's - tell you when/if i get there

Keep the S... you paid off the interest and now are paying principle... don't waste that.

Buy the NSX when purchasing one is no more than 7% of your income... the wise financial choice...

Yes, life is short.. but choosing wisely never hurt anyone..

Good luck young Jedi.

can a car seat substitute for the chair? :D

I totally agree - speaking from experience. Our '03 S2000 got parted out and is up for sale as we speak. After we had the CTSC installed on the NSX, the S2000 just kinda got abandoned (and it was supercharged, too). There's nothing like the NSX - I find it hard to describe to people just how incredible the car is.

hey Ryan, i remember your car on s2ki and seeing it for sale.

I have no doubts that the X is an incredible car much in the way the S is incredible to everything else out there to me. I don't think I'll be putting a SC in the NSX anytime soon, but I really think I'm leaning towards buying this car as soon as I see one I want to own.

I feel your pain! I've been reading Prime for almost 3 years now and I still don't own one. Getting married and having a house built in the past 12 months didn't help either :)

At least you have an S2000, I drive a Hyundai Elantra .... Zzzz..... and the wife has one too....

Best of luck with whatever you decide!

All of the sudden, my "problems" seem so ridiculous. My fiance and I have also recently purchased a home, and are saving up for a wedding. You are doing the right thing by not splurging on a car. My common sense says "be happy with what you have, you have little to complain about."

But the NSX is like crack where it makes you do stupid things...now I woudl not give oral sex to a male to get one, but you get the idea :D
