just purchased a 97 and trusted the past owners word..... ran car fax...clean. DID NOT DO A PRE PURCHASE. i know STUPID. I have owned 3 911s this is my first nsx always wanted one. Something didnt feel right. After severe investigation I find the car was hit in the rear quarter panel. Now Im freaked. I pick up the car Fri. the previous owner is taking it to the the acura dealership to get a frame check per my request tomorrow. I always took people at their word. What a shame you cant anymore. HELP!!!

Two Things

1 - the NSX does not have a frame, per se.

2 - you are asking for our help; however, we do not have a magic wand to wave so that everything is made good. What kind of help are you asking for?

Does the seller have pictures of the car with the damage? Posting those might help determine the extent of the problem.

I'm assuming you've already given the cash to him, and I believe in more circumstances it truly is "buyer beware." Did you guys sign an agreement or anything like that?

Good luck,
Nick.

deadeye- I went thru a credit union and they pre paid the previous owners finance company already. He does not have pics. I have a case for nondisclosure as I had to pull teeth to get the details of accident, after he said all was fine. i actually called the previous owner to find the extent. he said the car was drivable after accident and it was a minor deal. I me still concerned.

I think all cars have a frame, they have to?

Incorrect with the NSX. This car is monocoque.....the body / chassis is an integral unit. No separate frame.

The term "frame check" confuses me ... I would get the service shop to specifically inspect that area... gaps between body panels, paint drips, poor repairs, whatever.

Have you asked for reciepts? Where was it repaired? There are great people from all over the country that read this forum... they might be able to tell you more about that place.

Just an idea,
Nick.

now im confused. it is being checked at voyles acura in GA I have had a tremendous issues getting the recs. faxed to me . as in they havent yet. it seems they are protecting the previous owner.

I would post to in the local forum and see if any nsxers would be able to inspect the car.Although it might seem insignificant for a lay person to check out body damage corrected, experienced owners can tell how a pristine car should look and might be able to shed more light on a redone car.I have seen my share of dealler used nsx's travell through my region and the body work/repaint is either done well and hard to spot or done poorly and easy to see.

thanks guys for your input. I live n the tampa bay area if any of you are close. I would be happy as all get out to meet you and you my car.

kensx - I live in Tampa and have a '95. Call me tonight after 7 and I'll try to help you any way I can. We can park mine next to the '97 to compare side-by-side

Question for you. How exactly were you taken? Did the owner sell you the car saying it was perfect when in fact it had significant damage to the rear quarter panel or had it just been hit in the past and been fixed? If it is the latter, depending on how much damage, but it shouldn't be a big deal if fixed properly. Is it a big deal if someone has to replace the rear 1/4 panel because someone back into it in a parking lot? If fixed properly, does it really devalue the car?

I asked the previous owner three times if the car had any paint work or had been hit, wrecked etc his reply was always the car is perfect and no it hadnt. come to find out after pulling teeth at the acura dealership it had some front supension work( bent tie rod) and the back rear quarter had been fixed along with a brake line. i finally got in touch with the orginal owner(2 owner car) he said he got hit in the rear and that he was able to drive home from the accident. I think the car still has some alignment issues.

since it was the 1st owner's accident, is it possible the 2nd owner didn't know about the damage? and simply a bent tie rod and quarter panel doesn't' sound that significant to me (please note i'm a doctor not a claims adjuster)

yeah he knew guys in fact i got all the recs now which showed HE did the repairs. Will be posting pics as you can clearly see the fit and finish of the areas in questions is not right. I must say I drove the car back from GA and I have owned three 911s( 81sc, 1990 c2 and a 2000 coupe) This by far the best. The suspension on the vehicle is suspect. It has a slight shimmy between 50 and 80 above 80 its ok. Also the car pulls to the right a little. I see thru the past recs he has was always getting the car alligned. Thats always a good sign...... He has put 18inch wheels on the back and 17 front does this effect anything???

whaaaat? you ended up taking delivery of the vehicle eventhough you knew about its problems
why didn t you request yout money back since the car was misrepresented to you from the very beginning ?

long story went thru credit union based off his word he already had the money i was f____d. it is what it is, Im now trying to get the car in the right shape.
