Hello

CGI had their first track event of the year on Monday. I tell you, it sure feels good to be back in the saddle! Since we only had one non-instructor NSX there I thought I’d just remind everyone here of the opportunity: to get some seat time at a great track and a great school for a reasonable price and a friendly environment.

Gingerman, South Haven, Michigan
For those who don’t already know this track, it is one of the safest around (not much to hit). It is also a somewhat technical track which prepares one well for the “big” tracks. CGI is a NSX-owner run (Miranda Bros.) driver’s ed. school that offers more track time than most people can handle. www.cgimotorsports.com

Disclamer: I have no financial or other interest in CGI or anything relating to Gingerman or anything else within a 100 mile radius of the track. With the recent threads about getting together for a dyno day or track day, I just thought I’d remind people that a few of us already get together over the summer at these events.

Hope to see you this summer!

DanO

Thanks for the kind words Dano. For those of us who are regulars. its like a second family. Just as a point of interest, Nick from St Louis has about four coming up on June 28 (that class can't handle any more C students but can B's and A's) and we are looking forward to seeing him again. He mentioned there might even be a couple of turbo NSX's there. Our class on July 19 (or some of the later dates) looks like it could handle some of the "nubies" if we want to organize an NSX Day. One word of caution though. Be forewarned, if you try it once, you may be hooked (i.e. Doug Hyashi's "go fast crack pipe":) )

Almost forgot, for those of you who have never attended, check out our FAQ at www.cgimotorsports.com
Just click on drivers schools.

I just visited the CGI site and, if I am reading correctly, these are one-day schools. Is this true or false?

You are correct, it's a one day school with 7 20-minute sessions for each run group. Guaranteed to send you home tired;)

Yes, they are one-day schools, always on Mondays.

I'll be instructing at some of them, including the schools on May 24 and June 28. No guarantees about which car I'll bring, though. ;)

One of the nice things about the CGI schools is the atmosphere of fun and learning in a safe environment. With so much track time offered during the day, there's less stress and worry about the schedule or about getting enough track time. It's always a good time.

Would I be correct in assuming that the 'C' group is the novice group and that the 'A' group is the advanced group?

Yes, that is correct. If a date is filled then let Chuck know and I’m sure he’ll put you on a waiting list and work you in if there is an opening or if they can roundup another instructor.

Dan

I am signed up in B group (I assume) for the 28th.

update on 6/28 GMAN CGI event

this just in from "event management" regarding the 6/28 CGI event...

if everyone brings their NSX on Monday, there will be 10 NSX’s in attendance to counteract the 10 BMW’s coming from the Badger Bimmer Group from WI.

Let's get more NSXs out there, and support CGI's efforts to providing a fun, safe event venue for driving our cars.

Sweet... mine will be there. Should be awesome to see everyone and their cars!

Hmmm... Do I still have an NSX? Hold on, let me go check out in the garage, and see what's under that car cover...

I will be there on Monday 6/28 to try out my new Type R tranny, the RA1's that were recommended to me, but most importantly to see some old friends.

Should be a great time and something I look forward to every year!

I would love to but duty calls - anyone else reading this who has a flexible schedule would be crazy to pass this offer up!

:D

Any chance folks might be interested in sticking around for dinner on Monday before heading back?
I will be extending my stay by 1 night to have dinner, as long as it is not just me. Ken, are you up for it?

Table for two, please.

Anyone else is welcome to join us, of course.

If Detroit folks are coming, we can choose a place close to the track; I'm pretty familiar with the restaurants in South Haven. If it's just folks heading back to the southwest, I know several great places towards the Michigan-Indiana border...

Hey Nick, talk to me before your first session and I'll give you the scoop regarding the Type R tranny shifting options at g-man.

See you soon!

p.s. hopefully I'll have my car on the road by Monday! I'm replacing the front 02 sensor today and hope that will fix the problem....yea right!

I'd be interested in hearing this too... JDM gearset makes GMAN mostly a 3rd gear track, with some downshifts to 2 (into T1, T3 IIRC) and get 4th on the straights (need to go 4->3 into turns though).

JMHO -- you optimize VTEC better at this track with the US OE gear ratios, mostly staying in 2nd with some use of 3rd (possibly 4th on straights).

Hi Manuel - I agree in that it was an easy track on shifting (mostly 2nd and 3rd like you say with the "optional 4th on the back straight if you are going all out on that lap).

That said - several years ago DanO and I would have a great time and go back and forth and last year he was completely pulling away from me so I have a lot to learn about the track and want to know about the gear "tricks" as well.

The hardest thing about the short gears is that I had 7 years on the US OEM gears and I am having trouble "recalibrating" to the newer gears/mph shift points/etc. Still love it on the street but need to "think" a lot more now so as to not upset the car or upset my wallet with a "money" shift! ;)

See you all Monday!
