Group Model Buy: 1/43 "Kunimitsu" LeMans 1995 Class Winner

I have located a small quantity of a 1:43 scale resin kit of the GT2 class winning NSX Team Kunimitsu car that raced at LeMans in 1995. The kit was produced by Provence Moulage who make some of the best kits in this field for the Japanese shop "Romu". Resin kits are not quite like building a plastic kit: they come with no instructions beyond a couple of color photos on one sheet showing a completed model from several angles. The techniques are a little different and the small scale makes them a bit more complex. There are not a lot of parts so assembly is relatively straight forward but very fine details need to be picked out in paint (interior for example) to make them stand out. Photo-etched metal parts are used for wings and splitters and so on.

Here is a picture of a professionally-built kit:

Note that it is possible to have the kit built professionally (not by me, I hasten to add) if you have to have the model but don't have the skills to do it yourself. These services are not cheap... There is a chance that someone will decide to release this car as a diecast model but I am not aware of any plans to do so.

The group buy is as follows: I expect the kit to come in at around $75.00 each including shipping to you. This is pretty expensive for a 1/43 kit of this type - they would have been around $35-40 when new if purchased in Europe. Unfortunately these are coming from Japan and they cost what they cost. There are only a handful of them available and, AFAIK, they are gone for good after this batch is spoken for. There is always the chance that the kit could be re-released but I have no knowledge of plans to do this. I have not seen this particular kit for sale in the 2+ years that I have been looking for it. Participation in the group buy will require pre-payment via PayPal and delivery will take a couple of weeks. Contact me privately to participate. First come, first served, and I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

Here is a picture of the actual car wearing some battle scars:

Yes, a couple of reasons I suppose:

1. I needed a topic to hit 500 posts.
2. Fills an gap in my collection
3. Seems like an important car from a "historical" perspective. The Honda LeMans effort was a pretty impressive one all things considered.
4. Unfortunately a negative aspect - this car helps to symbolize Honda's lack of commitment to the NSX. See off-topic thread on Honda and F-1. How many US NSX owners know or care anything about Honda's F-1 history or the fact that an NSX won its' class at LeMans? They (Honda) are never going to have a supercar to compete with Ferrari without paying attention to this history. Heck, Ferrari played up their F-1 heritage even when they had not won a championship in 21 years!!!

PS: if this car was a Ferrari there would be people on this board who would know every detail of its' construction and history. Chassis numbers would be debated, modifications discussed, the name of the guy who bolted it together would be known, etc.

See my comments on that same thread!

BTW - Congratulations on hitting the 500 mark.
