NSteXpo Dyno day report

I will give the quick and short of what I witnessed With my own eyes today...


Supercharged:

Brent Cobb's Gruppe M put out consitant 330rwhp

Andy V's 3.0 Comptech put out somewhere in the 320's...I don't remember exactly the range however.

Basch Boost 4psi put out 358-to a peak 360 rwhp.

I "THINK" all three cars had the array of headers, exhaust, and intake on them in addition to the different SCs.

NA Cars:

3.0's range from low 220s to 259 rwhp (I am prety sure) Ranging from cars with knock problems to Vaughn's(sp?) headers, exhaust, and well tuned/run silver 92.

3.2s ranged from the 250s to 267 rwhp. Terry may correct me if I got his wrong by a number or two...but his 2001 blue beauty was the king of the N/A NSXs today.

Well there's my nerdy quick "factless" report. I'm sure everyone will chime in with the corrections to my numbers. But there you have the prelim report.

I am having a great time meeting everyone and enjoying the wonderful converstation. Everyone I have met is a class act...and I have to say that this NSX community is absolutely the best bunch of people! ^_^

I don't remember any specific Torque numbers...but I'm sure the people who were there will chime in sooner or later with their plots. Eric Robbins was taking notes so I'm sure he will contribute to this post with accurate info.

There was one 3.2 Comptech SC'ed car...a yellow one at the very end of the day while everyone was eating. But since I was stuffing my face I didn't pay any attention to the Dyno results...I do think it was in the 320's too though. I'm not sure of what all was on the car other than the Comptech SC and HRE wheels...which gave two HP for pimp factor alone

Yes and yes.

I will be compiling all the data and preparing a fairly formal report for everyone to read. What Scott outlined above is fairly accurate. I'll probably have it done tomorrow evening, as I'm still busy with teXpo until tomorrow afternoon.

If the 4psi is accurate, that is positively phenomenal. It would be impressive at 5psi. Wait a minute, was it a 3.0 or 3.2?

Did anyone think to T-in the same boost gauge to each car for consistent readings?

BTW, I've been looking for a gauge made for low boost cars. Most of them go to 20 or 25 PSI and are very hard to read at 5 psi.
 
Well...... SinceI could not make it to the event I decided to run down to the shop and put the old 91 on the dyno......After much tunning I am VERY happy to anounce that we were able to put down 280.7 wonderful NA hp to the wheels. Tourque was low @ 192.4 but we were tunning for hp. In the process I found a few more issues with the factory fuel system in the NSX. We belive the mysterious peak and valley look @ apx 5k is a lean condition formed in commbination by the intake manifold and poor factory ecu tunning.We were able to eliminate this in the graff by finding and killing the lean condition. The car pulls hard now I am very happy...Unfortunatly (but not really) peak Hp has so far been pushed to 8k but there was no sign of a hp falloff even at the rev limit. The data looks as if I had the abillity to rev to 8500rpm the peak may have been more. This weekend I will be going to the track for 1/4 testing and then dip into the n02. keep you all updated and hope you all had fun.

How does one "tune for HP" at the expense of torque??

Bench-racing aside, I'd think you really want to tune for torque, if you want good dragstrip #s, no??

326 RWHP and 252 RWT on my CTSC. ++

330 RWHP and 259 (?) RWT on Brent's GMSC.

360 RWHP and 242 RWT on Mark's BBSC.

++ The air-fuel mixture was the best of all three, a very consistent 13:1 to 14:1. The CTSC's torque curve was beautiful - ramps straight up at 2500 RPM and is flat as a board across the entire RPM range.

1st dyno: 264.4 RWHP / 201.9 RWTorque
2nd dyno: 267.0 RWHP / 204.0 RWTorque
3rd dyno: 266.3 RWHP / 204.7 RWTorque

I think Eric is working up a chart or spreadsheet or something -- he took notes on all mods and got a floppy with all the results for the day.

Here are my results -- Bone Stock '97

1st dyno: 260.9 RWHP / 201.1 RWTorque
2nd dyno: 260.6 RWHP / 201.4 RWTorque
3rd dyno: 260.4 RWHP / 201.1 RWTorque

I won the Most HP unmodified category!!!!

Great fun this weekend.

No - unfortunately we did not think of checking each cars actual boost pressure at the time of the test on the dyno - that would have been informative.

To clarify somewhat - what MB had on his car was the "standard" BBSC beta 3X kit with a LARGER pulley than is normally supplied so that it was running lower boost pressures than what has been dyno'd and posted before. Unfortunately, the chip that was in the ECU had been programmed for the 6-ish psi kit pulley, so we were running a bit rich and a bit down on available power for the dyno run, (bummer, only 360

but the parts that we were actually testing on the 2500 mile round trip to NSteXpo were the new "improved" driveshaft bearing substructure, not the rest of the kit which we are pretty happy with at the moment. This was my first long term (mileage wise) drive of the new kit and I was quite happy with it, even with the "low boost" pulley installed. That's just OMO, but so is the rest of what you read here. [in the Forums]

When the comparative dyno graphs are posted by Eric in a few days the actual BBSC boost figure from the tested kit configuration will be posted along with it.

I'm working on it... unfortunately the DynoJet software sucks, so I'm forced to develop a workaround to getting graphs in image format, which will take an extra day.

The report looks good, though. I'm debating on whether to include ALL the data... I noted wheel and tire make/model so that people can determine total rotational mass, but not the brake rotors because they are inconsequential in the larger scheme of things... in fact, wheels/tires probably are, as well, considering they are turning a 3000lb drum.

Give me another day - and MB / MJ - if you have additional info about the car you think might be important, send me an email. You should have the address somewhere.

The clearance of the Tarox 10 pot front calipers on MB's car is tight... in fact, the front caliper has the outer "corner" ground down on the prototype unit. On the production units, there is 3mm of clearance all around.

MB's car had the 10 pot caliper up front and 6 pot caliper in the rear. When I test drove the car on some straight empty roads out by Texas Motor Speedway, I was incredibly impressed with the supercharger (of course), but what really caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud to myself was the braking force of the car. Better than anything I've been in... and I thought the big Brembo brakes on my Porsche were great.

I used to have a big brake upgrade for the car lower on my list than other items, but having driven this kit moved it up a couple of notches. What's most appealing is that the kit fits under the OEM 16/17" wheels. I won't be able to use my OEM 15/16" wheels for track tires any longer, but at the track I don't care what my wheels look like.

Perhaps the incidental info such as wheels and oil and mileage don't have as much "tangible" info as mods such as I-H-E, regardless if the NSX engine is FI or NA. Maybe too much data could cause "information overload".
 
Hello I just was today in Tarox Factory and we perfectioned the clearance of Tarox Caliper for the 16 wheels kits we change the support for the caliper and we did a rotor 306 mm soon I will post the pics of my car so you can see better about the rear we decide for on road use to use the stock caliper but with a rotor of 313 mm in this way we can have problem to have the hand brake working without any modified
The front kits will fit without spacer
