Saw a 2002 on the highway

On my way in to work, I saw a yellow 2002 NSX travelling in the opposite direction. The car looked really nice in motion on the road. In fact, I spotted the car in distance as it approach and the entire time I thought it was an F360. It wasn't until "he" flashed his lights at me as he passed that I realized it was a new NSX. The new front fascia really changes what the car looks like on the road.

I also saw a white 2002 NSX-T in Riverside, CA on Saturday, which at first looked okay from the front as it approached, but as it went by and I saw the profile with bulbous headlights bulging up from the surface of the hood, I was thankful to have my 95.

I think the 02 looks pretty good. The slightly pronounced headlight height is one of those things that bugs you more if you fixate on it.

Of course there will be those who can't get past it just as there are those that were dissatisfied with the F360 in comparison to the F355 (a similar change in front fascia).

I've never seen one on the street, but the more I look at them in the showroom the more I dislike them. The new NSX has lost the "timeless" look. It is trying to blend with what's hot today, the Eclipse, the F360 and Murciélago with fixed lights and big holes in front to let the air in.

I love the pop-up headlights of the old model, I love the proportions of the car with the thin nose and the thin rear. I love it stock, I would never put on a body kit from any aftermarket producer. The car is simply beautiful and perfect the way it is.

Allow me to go on: yeah, yeah, I'm about to rant . . . .
I've lowered and modified more cars than I can think of and I was never satisfied with the results. They didn't handle or feel as nice as the original that was produced by the engineers of the company. Those louder exhausts were nicer for a while but very shortly afterwards, they grew tiresome and annoying. I dislike them very much now.

If you are going to track you car I can understand why you would want to modify it. If you are not, why do it? I know the answer: because it's the "In" thing to do, because it's cool, because you hope to get better performance out of it (sometimes you do), because everyone in your circle will think you are cool for doing it, and because you think - the bottom line - that your car looks better - which is a very valid reason for modifying it..

I'm ready for the flames now. I just had to express my opinion after reading this board for years and thinking why are these guys doing all these thing to these cars. Please tell me, I'll enjoy reading your responses, if any

Hmmmm...and I was just having a discussion yesterday about how I wish the new NSX was to the old NSX as the 360 is to the 355.

Starting to get off topics here but the NSX was just a mere facelift. The 360 is an entirely new car. Changes were made to everything. Ferrari didn't just slap on fixed headlights, bumper, hood, rear valence, etc on the 355 and call it a 360. A more accurate comparo would be comparing the Diablo when it had its pop-up lights and then when it had the "updated" 300ZX-style fixed lights.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I fell in love with the first-gen NSX...bought my 2000 in 2000 fearing that any changes made to newer model NSXs would be for the worst. And, yes, mine is stock and I plan to keep her for as long as I live!

Those 2002 headlights bug me more and more every time I see them...

Same here. I can't stand those headlights. They remind me too much of the 3000GT ones.

I do like the updated rear valence quite a bit though.

Some are wondering why you keep your car stock!

To each his own.

The headlights and maybe the new wheels are the only thinkgs I don't like about the new model. I think the new rear bumper is an improvement as well as some nice interior touches. We have a red one parked in my apartment structure from time to time. Don't know who owns it.

It never has a plate so I think it may be a dealer who occasionally drives it. He/She must be bigtime to be allowed that car as occasional transportation.

You know, it's funny that everyone only mentions the ugly nose and the decent rear. I agree with both of those statements but I think the WORST part of the whole thing (although those light really do suck) is the horrible new sides!!!!!!!!! It is cheap, plasticky looking and has no contour. The real NSX has a nice swerve down there keeping with the exotic lines... The new one is all squared off and looks like a snap-on GM plastic molding. In the words of Forrestt, 'that's all I have to say about that.'

Hmm.. lots of negativity on the new NSX

Saw a preview of it in Motortrend, and the car actually looks pretty good. The pitures don't do it justice.

WELL I AM ONE OF THE FEW WHO HAS GONE OUT AND BOUGHT THE NEW 02. I OWNED A 92 AND TRULY ENJOYED THE CAR. SINCE 94 I HAVE OWNED A 348,355 (2) 996, BOXSTER S,993, 99 VETTE, AUDI TT WELL ALOT OF CARS BUT I ALWAYS REMEMBERED THE QUALITY AND GREAT DRIVE THIS CAR OFFERS. THE REASON I BOUGHT THE 02 KNOWING THAT THERE WILL BE A REDISGN IN 04 OR NO CAR AT ALL WAS ALL THOSE ITEMS PEOPLE DON'T LIKE HEADLIGHTS, SIDE VIEW . BUT MOST OF ALL THE PERFORMANCE IS GREATLY IMPROVED . 4.6 0-60, TOP SPEED 177 ACCORDING TO MY SPEEDO. OVERALL GREAT CAR. JIM

Isn't it amazing that people can have such contrasting opinions? I bought the 2002 BECAUSE of the lights, but not exclusivly for that reason. I think most cars with retractable/popup headlights look great when they are down, but look like frogs when up.

2002 Black/Black and proud of it.

I think the 2002 changes are actually well thought out, understated, and generally attractive. And, according to a poll here on NSXprime, that's a majority opinion here.

However, the thing that strikes me most about it in person is how similar it is to the 1991-2001 NSX. IT AIN'T THAT DIFFERENT, FOLKS, SO DONTCHA GO HATIN'.

Yeah, I really hate the new headlights: in all of the pictures I've seen of the 02, it looks like a little toy or a cartoon or something. The flip lights kind of gave the NSX a sort of feeling of exclusivity among exotic cars (the ones I tend to compare it to are the Viper and the Z06, the latter also having the flip-up headlights). Don't know much about ferraris, but all you guys seem to compare it to the italians, so... uh I forgot what I was going to say there. Anyway, If I could have any NSX, I'd prob'ly choose a white 01 targa, six speed, purely for its cosmetic differences from the more recent (supposedly superior) model.
