'97, 4,900 miles, all records, very good condition...what price range is reasonable?

Seller wants $44k

If it is in the condition that you say it is in, $44k is a steal. Have it checked out thoroughly before you purchase. There are many people around that would be ready to snatch one up at that price.

A reasonable price for such a low-mileage '97 would be $57-60K for a six-speed, $50-55K for an automatic.

Check it out and grab it.

I agree with the other comments, that seems extremely reasonable. My guess is either the seller doesn't know the car's value (which is unlikely) or something else could be up. At the very least, if you can get the VIN post it here and someone will run a carfax report for you.

Good luck!

That price is way low. Ken is correct on the range. Think of this, a 1991 NSX with that amount of mileage still seems to be getting close to 40K. Why would a 1997 only be 44K? Something is fishy.

Here's the VIN; any help is appreciated.

When I think about it, that makes perfect sense. There's a very good chance the car has never been registered.

I work for Honda and this car is being offered for sale to employees. It has been in the possession of the southeastern Acura training center, so it's likely worn distributor plates its whole life. I can understand now why there would be zilch on CarFax.

Anyway, I have my "name in the hat" with five other employees to see who gets to buy this car on Tuesday. With any luck, I'll be posting this message on AutoTrader soon:

JUST GOT NSX, MUST SELL 1991 PORSCHE C4 COUPE, 57K, DARK BLUE OVER TAN, 5-SPEED...

Thanks for checking, and wish me luck. Who needs a back seat, anyway?

I would watch out for those manufacturer or distributor owned cars. Even with the low mileage I would be very cautious. I can assure you that the numerous employees that have driven the car did not baby it through its break-in period. These kind of manufacturer owned cars come up often from Mercedes Benz Credit Corporation, BMW Financial Services, etc. at auctions and they almost always announce that it has been in some kind of major wreck. Just have it checked out thoroughly and good luck! Let us know what happens.
