I was briefly reading the new Motor Trend (i havent got mine yet!), but anyway, they had a write up on the Honda Dualnote.

Loosely quoted here "The exterior is not the new NSX, but the powerplant most likely is." -- the 3.5L V6 I-vtec.

They also said the ONLY way we will get a V8 is if Toyota has a great racing season and builds a v8 or v10 model.

I would guess that will put the next NSX in the 350 HP range, which IMO is WAY too low considering the competition. --Z06, 360 etc.

Of course, car mags are NOT always right. So, we may still get a V8. We will all have to wait and see.

By my math 3.5L x 120 hp/L = 420 hp. Why would the specific output of the new NSX (their technology flagship) be lower than that of the S2K?

Also, Toyota already makes a V8. For sale, right now.

David,

I think the Honda Dualnote put out 400 HP, with the V6 providing like 350HP and an electric motor putting out the extra.

If the next NSX has a V6 at 120HP/L at 3.5L, that would be pretty awesome! Here hoping it is!

I will post the full article when I actually get my Motor Trend in the mail.

Even if they use the same design, that number has nothing to do with the NSX. Keep in mind that the TL uses that same basic engine design as the NSX. It is pretty easy to dial the hp up on the same baisc motor if the fundamental design is good.

Plus I read that the new car will have 100 hp electric motors to the front wheels. That would be about 450 awd hp.Sounds good to me.Thats before the tuners get to it.

The Toyota F-1 program better run lights out next year, or were screwed on a v-8.

Also, we may hear the distant march of the FORUM NAZI? i.e. electric assist

I have read no rumors that would indicate that the next NSX would have electric motors.

The DualNote is a 4 door, 4 passenger sedan, not a sports car.

We asked P.D. at lime rock if he had some inside info since he does driving junkets for acura corprate ,and he seemed genuine when he said he knew nothing other than the usual speculation.

Talking to someone who I guess works for Honda or something, he was saying that what he's heard is that the next gen NSX motor would be based on the same 3.5L V6 block Honda uses in so many other vehicles, and that it's putting out 350+ hp without breaking a sweat, and that the biggest problem they're having is keeping a transmission under it.

Regarding electric motors on the front wheels.... I can't imagine Honda would do that to the an NSX. I mean, how could that possibly not add huge amounts of unsprung weight to the car? On the 1st gen, they used forged aluminum suspension pieces to save weight... Of course, an extra hundred foot-pounds of nice smooth electric motor torque would really help the car off the line.

*sigh* Too bad it's all rumours. I just hope the next gen NSX doesn't turn out to be like Star Wars Episode 1 - lots of hype, lots of anticipation, and a huge let-down.

They have a new magazine out in japan that is dedicated to high peformance honda's and focuses on Honda's high performance VTEC and Type R models. You can buy these at any japanese book store. I picked mine up at little tokyo here in So Cal. There is one issue where they printed out the specs of the '05 NSX and also some illustrations. I can't read japanese but there is a couple pages of full text on it. As I recall it has the 400hp I-VTEC V8 engine. The specs even gave out an engine code. I think it was N35 but not sure. I'll try to scan it. This magazine has the new NSX-R on the front cover.

Don't place too much stock in the Japanese mags scoops. Those guys are way worse than even the American mags when it comes to bogus stories based on hearsay.

Check out the FAQ section on next-gen misinfo and look how many red herrings have come from the east.

Agreed. I bought a mag while in Japan that shows what the new NSX will look like and I believe engine specs as well (all in kanji). And this is about 6-7 months ago! I will try to scan mine as well, but I have no idea how to post it here.
