I was just watching the F1 qualifying at Montreal on Speed channel, and I could swear I saw an Imola Orange 2002 NSX safety car parked along the side of the track. Anyone know anything about this car? Perhaps it was for one of the support races?

Tim,
Yes, I saw that Imola Orange '02 NSX as well. It was just past the start finish line to the driver's right. At the end of the qualifying broadcast there was a brief clip showing the car sitting on track at the front of the historic F1 grid. Pretty cool! I swear I aaw an MDX parked trackside as well so perhaps Acura is one of the main sponsors of the Canadian GP. Sure would help their marketing efforts if Takuma Sato wouldn't grenade Honda engines in huge fireballs for all to see. <g>

A Grand Prix is seen by a billion people on TV. Every second is precious, and the whole event is one great big advertising extravaganza. While Mercedes bid for the safety car contract, there are quite a lot of other support vehicles as well. Each manufacturer brings examples of all their cars for display and to suttle VIP and track personel around, and to and from the track. The NSX may be the Track Marshall's car, while the MDX may be for the on-site surgeon, and his equipment, should he need to get to the seen of an accident to extract a driver. Hundreds of cars are needed to get everyone to and from the track, and the car companies can rent the cars out to themselves, and write it off as an advertising expense at the same time.
