Brake Pad Replacement

Guys, I am up for a set of brake pads... I just had a 30K performed and the lines were flushed. The rotors are ok. I have experience replacing the pads on my honda. Does the NSX require any special tools once into the job in order to get the old pads off and the new pads on?

The bolts on the back of the NSX caliper are 14 mm, not 12 mm like other Hondas. You'll need something (or someone) to hold the caliper up; you can't just swing it up and let it sit there like you can on an Integra, because it will fall back down. And for the rear pads, you'll need something to fit in the slots on the face of the piston to turn it while you're pushing it back in (I've used a very thin screwdriver for this). Other than that, it's the same.

crxtasy,

Ken is right on. Also go here: http://www.danoland.com/nsxgarage/index.html and look at DanO's procedure. It cuts right to the chase, is detailed, and has some pictures to assist. Extremely well done DIY.

Good Luck. If you have any questions let us know.

Thanks.. Thats exactly what I was looking for. Doesnt look too difficult, as disk brakes are usually arent too bad.. Just had a lot of major service completed on my 92 w/40K miles, looking to cut out some unecessary labor costs if possible. Brakes and alignment are the last items for completion.

P.S. Rear brakes are a bit more of a pain because of the need to disconnect and reconnect the parking brake.

Also you need the brake tool to push back the piston! You can rent it from autozone for free

if you are cheap like me.

Nah. You just need to turn the piston, in the rear, with something (anything that fits in the slots).

Up front, of course, you need something to push the piston back in. I use a big pipe wrench.
