Snap ring range

According to the FAQ, the snap ring failure is limited to transmission numbers J4A4-1003542 through J4A4-1005978. So is it correct to conclude that a VIN number (JH4NA1154MT001142) outside the range is not prone to snap ring failure.

Thanks NSX gurus,
RR

The last four digits of the car's VIN number do not represent the last four digits of the transmission number. You must check the transmission number to determine if it is in the snap ring range.

For example, my '91 NSX VIN number ends in 000991 and the tranny number is J4A4-1001364.

Absolutely true. However...

1991 US market cars with VIN numbers under around MT002500 were almost certainly built using transmissions with transmission numbers below the snap ring. If the transmission wasn't replaced in the car's first two years, it should still be out of range. Still, the only way to be certain is to check the transmission number.
