Might be looking into an NSX if I can practically pull it off. Looking to buy a 91 under $20,000. I know they sometimes go this cheap but what condition are they in. I don't expect it to be show quality but I don't expect it to be really beat up. PLEASE tell me if this is possible, and what these cars chronic problems are and what to expect. ANY advice is more than welcome.

IMHO, not possible. Any NSX that can be found for under $20K is a severely trashed NSX, and will be more trouble than it's worth (trouble=money).

Save some more money. Look for clean, low-mileage 91-92s in the low $30Ks. You'll have a much better time of it.

Here's what you can typically expect for your money when shopping for a '91 (leaving aside the question of aftermarket modifications, which can cause the value to go up OR down):

$35-40K - super low mileage (under 20K, with those under 10K towards the top of this range), five-speed, clean title, perfect condition, no accidents

$32-35K - moderate mileage (20-60K), five-speed, clean title, well maintained, excellent condition, no accidents or minor accidents properly repaired and not visible

$30-32K - moderately high mileage (60-90K), five speed, clean title, well maintained, very good condition but minor scratches and chips and a few small mechanical problems, minor accidents properly repaired and not visible

$27-30K - high mileage (over 100K) or automatic transmission, clean title, most maintenance done but not timing belt and water pump, fair condition with several major items requiring repair, minor accidents possibly visible

$25-27K - at least two of the following conditions: very high mileage (over 150K miles), salvage or theft title, major systems not operational with expensive repairs required, major accident history with body damage readily apparent

$23-25K - all of the following conditions: very high mileage (over 150K miles), salvage or theft title, major systems not operational with expensive repairs required, major accident history with body damage readily apparent

Your description of "not really beat up" sounds like a car in the $27-32K categories. You're expecting to pay $20K for it. Forget it.

Just FYI, I saw a 1993 NSX here in Houston, blk on blk, ext. was in great condition. The mileage was at 122k, and the asking proce was 23k obo. It's not in the paper anymore, but it did catch my eye when I saw the ad! I don't know the mechanical status, nor the history, but sounded like possibly a good deal!
Good Luck

Keep in mind that as the economy tanks, people find themselves in need of some quick cash and a deal is possible. No everyone has the luxury of showing the car for 1-2-3 months, and getting a better price.

Actually, he's expecting to pay UNDER $20k for it. I'll second the "forget it". Also, no low priced(23-28k) NSX takes long to sell so I doubt anyone is dumping them to the first buyer with an offer.

That's true, but that may require a lot of luck AND a long time looking (a la NetViper) - and even then, at best, you might only save a couple thousand dollars (and spending a huge amount of time in order to do so). I still like that quote from Lud, who searched for a long, long time for his Monte Carlo Blue NSX-T, something like: "Every car I've seen that appeared to be priced well below market had specific reasons for doing so." Your chances of finding a '91 NSX for $10K less than it's worth, as speree504 is asking about, are probably about as good as those of finding that $50 Porsche from the old urban legend.

Man, I got a SCREAMING deal! This is around what I paid for for my '91 but not only did it have no accidents and the water pump/timing belt done, but had a NEW CLUTCH and the 120k mile service completed (and not in snap ring range)!

It's under $20k, have no other info on it though. Good luck.

I called about that one the same day that is was "sold", it has a salvage title. 104K miles on it. Personally, I would never drive a sports car or luxury car with a salvage title. it kinda cheapens the experience (just my opinion). It's like driving a fiero with a replica kit of a lambo. I'm sure my opinions would be different if it were a daily beater, which i can care less what happened to it.
