TCS indicator light.....

I know this is rather stupid of me NOT knowing this, but when the TCS indicator light lights up, what does it mean? Does it mean that the TCS is activated, or turned off?

There are two different TCS lights. There is a yellow light that is constantly on if you press the button to turn off the TCS. And there is a light (green?) that flashes on whenever the TCS is activated.

If it is a green colored TCS light that blips on and off during hard accleration, it is the TCS cutting throttle. If it is the dull yellow/orange TCS light, that means TCS is turned off.

Ken, the light that I'm referring to is the yellow one. About this green light you're talking about, well, I 'BELIEVE' it doesn't exist in my '99 Zanardi. There's only the yellow light marked 'TCS'. THe YELLOW TCS light DOES come on for a split sec when I accelerate hard to redline and speed shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Again there is NO green TCS indicator light, just the yellow one that I can see.

So this means that the TCS is always engaged (default setting) UNLESS the driver push that TCS button that lights up the yellow TCS indicator light which DE-ACTIVATES the TCS?
I've always thought that it's the OTHER way around, because of the wording of the indicator light. Shouldn't it read "TCS OFF" instead of just "TCS" ? Rather confusing if you ask me. I'm probably NOT the only one confused.
Ahhh, so that explains the back end swinging around quite a bit on numerous occasions when I was cornering hard through some of them decreasing radius turns at the SoCal Canyon Drive 2 1/2 months back. And I thought turning the TCS 'on' (when in fact I had it turned OFF!!) would make my NSX less prone to oversteers! What a dope I am!

This also answered mt questions tha I had about the throttle response here: http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005836.html .
Thanks for your replies guys! Problem solved!

That's correct.

The green light and the yellow light are in two different places on the gauge cluster. The yellow light is in the upper right section, and the green light is in the center (inside the tachometer circle, if I recall correctly). Check your owner's manual to see where they are.

The easiest way to see the TCS activation light light up is to take your car out onto a wet, empty parking lot and floor the throttle so the tires spin.

Thoguht about doing that almost 2 week ago, but couldn't find a wet parking lot (since there haven't been any rain in Socal lately). I figured I didn't need to do that once I post this question for all of you to answer.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion Ken. You've been a gr8 help.

I rechecked my Zanardi gauge cluster to see if I can find the green TCS light in the center of the tachometer or anywhere else, other than the yellow one that's there sandwiched in between SRS and ABS light on top center of the gauge clusters. I found NOTHING of the sort, although there apppeared to be a square indentation at the center bottom of the tach which suggested the green TCS light was once there on the older model. Perhaps on later NSX models like the Zanardi, Honda decided that having 2 TCS lights which display the same function were redundant, so they eliminated the green light and kept the yellow one. So there you have it, NO green TCS light on later models, or at least none in Zanardi version.

That is really odd that you dont have it

I would still try the wet aprking lot thing../ at least attempt to roast the tires. As soon as your wheels begin spinning out of control, your TCS should kick in. At that point the square you are refering to should flash "green" with a big TCS.

My 91 and my 95 have it. I thought that it was all the same to the newest???

The later models do not have the green tcs square as I have checked the brochures. Not sure from which year they started, maybe from 97+ they deleted it.

Me too. Thanks, ACR.

It sounds from the above description like when they eliminated the separate green light, they might have combined it with the "TCS OFF" light, so that it flashes when TCS activates - is that possible? What does it say in the owner's manual?

In the 95+ cars, the TCS button does not have an indicator light on the switch. In addition, the TCS light on the dash lights yellow when the TCS is switched off. Normally, when TCS is on, the TCS light is off but will flash when the TCS is actually cutting engine power - though it cuts power before it's first flash...

BINGO! That's how the TCS light works in my Zanardi. MY recent question about engine cutting power while cornering hard have now been properly explained. Thanks guys.
