Funniest thing happened this weekend at Road America where they hosted the CART race. I was driving over the Sargento bridge into the paddock and I see frickin Mario Andretti coming at me on his little pit scooter. As he gets a little closer he gives me a big thumbs up and a nice comes out his mouth I almost died wanted to stop but to much traffic behind. Not every day you see Mario giving you the stamp of approval on your NSX to cool.

Very cool! I watched the race on Speed this weekend. Nice memories of NSXPO came back. RA is probably my favorite track I've ever driven. Perfect for the NSX.

That is cool. Not only did I not get to go because of work, that could have been me getting the thumbs up from Andretti. Did they have touring that weekend?

Mario is a super nice guy, he came to meet us at the The Tirerack a few months ago. What a great storyteller, I would have stayed all night to hear the tales if he would have kept talking.

No touring Jim to much stuff going on all weekend. Aaron try to meet up next year I guess you missed a good time I had passes for the Fedex tent all you could eat and drink. And on top of that Paul Tracy came to the tent for 15 minutes and gave a little talk about what it's like to take a lap in a Cart Car on RA to cool.

Yea, right up there with Reggie Jackson.

I still remember him berating one of his kids at Road Atlanta years ago because he'd screwed up on the track. Yelling, screaming, even shoved him around all in plain sight of the crowd. World class ass when the mask come off.

I am sure we can all think of a moment we are less then proud of.
Hopefully it didn't happen in front of a crowd who can stand in judgement for the rest of our lives.

Yes, but that was first-hand confirmation of what I had heard about him before and since. No big deal, what do I care, it's just that I choked on the "super nice guy" thing for a minute. I probably should have resisted.

Since we're on the subject of celebrities losing their temper in public, I have an anecdote to share with you all. I used to be a club member of a local indoor pistol shooting range, that is until they closed for good due to financial reasons 3 months back.

Anyway, A good number of years ago, when I took a break from a daily practicing session for an upcoming Olympic-stlye National Pistol Championship and chatted with the rangemaster about everything and nothing at all, he brought up that day's highlight about the Lethal Weapon 2 film shoot at the range earlier in the morning before they open. He talked about Danny Glover's temperament on the set, swearing and cursing about something I cared not to remember and went back into his trailer room, slamming the door hard as he went in. Mel Gibson, on the other hand, was still on the set playing the cool guy and was more than willing to sign a few autographs for his fans. The rangemaster thought that was kinda odd and amusing, because the A-hole role between Danny and Mel was reversed when they were filming LW 1 at the same shooting range back in 87. Mel then was having a fit and Danny was the really nice guy. Again I can't remember why he was p'd off, but it was over something trivial.

The point where I'm getting at is that even celebrities have their good days and their bad days at the office. We as a fan expects a larger-than-life celebrity to have this larger-than-life personality. Let's not forget that they are just mere mortals like the rest of us and they shouldn't be judged and condemned for the rest of their lives or their careers for just that one moment of uncontrollable frustration. Tabloids make a good living doing that, let's not contribute to their causes, fair enough?

BTW sjs, no offenses to you, I catch myself ragging on famous public figures more often than I'm willing to admit. I hope none was taken though.

I sat in the skybox next to Mel Gibson at a Cubs game a couple years ago, and he was charming and gave autographs freely.

LOL, good one!

I see the stars daily here in vegas, my company cleans all the business jets here so its neat to see all the people. Some have major attitudes, some like Tiger Woods and Garth Brooks are the nicest guys in the world. One of our planes that Tiger was flying on broke so he needed to wait for another one, in the meantime he went cruising the strip in a piece of junk Saturn rental car, talk about humble! i can only imagine someone pulling up next to him on the strip and thinking that guy sure looks like Tiger, but who would expect a 50 mil a year guy in a saturn preety cool.

imo we are a little too forgiving of our children's role models. when was the last time you had a 'bad' day that consisted of slamming doors and yelling at your work site?? i dont think a 'bad day' justifies berating your kids in public or a tantrum at the work place. i'm sure we all know or have heard of those who do that, but is that our standard?? my lesser moments are at home when my wife is particularly annoying or on the road when some bonehead cops an attitude or blatantly almost hits me. in those instances with other drivers i just wave and then flip them off. actually, i do that with my wife sometimes to.

not trying to tangent, i just have strong opinions about our desensitization towards bad behavior in our society. just use our highways as one example; there is a marked decrease in politeness on our roads. when you let someone in it almost always resulted in a wave from the other driver. now it hardly ever does. in the last two months i've had three drivers almost come over into my lane and hit me, and every single one started yelling and gesturing at me!!! a decade ago these people would of waved apologetically at their mistake.

what are your opinions/observations on this??

just for clarification, all these examples are in my escalade, not the nsx. this makes it all the more humourous as A. my escalade is pretty hard to miss visually and B. my escalade would have won any collision contest except for suburbans and semis.

the reason i bought the escalade and sold the tl was for the above. 3kmiles a month makes you think about potential accidents.
