Went to get out of my NSX the other day and "Click!" , all of a sudden my interior drivers door handle went limp.

Got out the flashlight only to discover the plastic actually broke on the handle. No big deal, right?

Called up to order the handle......$400.00. Yep, nothing extra, not installed! Got it in and a friend and installed it, not very difficult.

Just wanted to give you guys something to think about everytime you pull that handle.

I just installed Dali/Mark's door fix-it on my driver's side. Was very straight-forward (although I had to slightly modify part of it to get it to fit into the handle part).

Pictures are below (click the picture to see the larger version).

Thanks Mark!

Yes, that was a surprise - seems to be 2 versions of the top handle bracket - one of the broken ones that we got in has the nubs you filed off and the other one does not. It might be that 1991's do not and the newer cars do. Anyway, I received a door handle to fix that had the upper and lower parts broken - we will now make the other half available for those of you on HGH supplement programs.

Happened to me last week too. The technician said who could not weld it because the centre piece is made of plastic covered with aluminium. The only way is firstly to staple the two broken piece together and silicon glue. Took me half day for the glue to cure. My technician said the next time I open the door just pull it lightly. Safe me 400 bucks.

Is there a PREVENTIVE measure like the Dali fix-it-thingies that could stop this terrible waste of money?
:(

Hi

It happend to me last night

I took out the "triangle" part and looked at it. It was snapped right off in the "join" there. That must be the problem every body else is having too.

My Dad brought it back to me a couple of hours ago. He fixed it. I hope it stay together now

I will take a couple of photos of it and post here when I get home.

It was a half hour job to fix according to my Dad..he charged me....about $0 :)

Not a problem to fix yourself. The door thingy was supposed to be fixed, but I guess it was poorly designed too.

It just snapped right of with that bad noise we "all" know.

Regards

Martin... :(

I had the interior driver-side door handle repaired (=changed for another one) in March this year.

Glad your daddy could fix it... I would have had to drive until Bern to my mechanic to have him repair it... :p

Hi Gheba

Didn't I tell you that my dad is Superman? He can fix anything. :) :)

Where did you get that thing? From Dali or was it the orginal?

Okey I remember we talked about this..so it is another orginal part that you had put in there.. That may be the reason it broke again. Orginal=not good

Seriously if you have access to a metal workshop with some tools you can make that part yourself.

Only time will show if the repair that my dad did will hold up. The design on that thing is not good so it will probably break some time in the future.

(Did you see the photos of the NSX next to the Corvette I posted in the Picture Gallery?)

Regards

Glad it is ok again!

Yes, it was changed with OEM part again (I thought they would have been good for other 110k-120k km as the first part did... I was wrong! ). The opart is only sold with the leather front part and the frame. Look at the cost on Rikli's receipt of this Spring service... :( it is a VERY expensive part! 300 EUR if I remembr correctely + labour!

I saw the photos right now, very nice! But clean the car!!! ;)

Argghhh! Ok mine broke last night! Three questions:

1) Is it possible that anything else might have broken inside too, or is it always that little piece that snaps?

2) Is the piece from Dali ok for the 91, or does it need to be modified like Ojas's?

3) I'd like to order the Dali replacement so I can save myself some money but I'm also a real wuss when it comes to anything DIY. The pictures from Ojas make it look fairly straightforward -- is it?

Don't be scared of this one - it is very simple to do. The hardest part is removing a little snap ring that holds a metal post in. Get it and try it and if you have problems/questions you can post back here as I check my messages very often.

Thanks for the advice guys. I went ahead and ordered the part from Dali. I took the door handle assembly out, and as mentioned it is extremely straightforward. The only thing I'm unsure about is the broken half that is not attached to the handle. It's got this silver 'pin' type thing and I think a C clip below it. Do I just pull that C clip off in order to pull the pin? Is this the snap ring you were referring to Nick?

BTW, I called the dealership and they want $427 canadian list price. So either the price on this has dropped, or the canadian list is just cheaper or the canadian dollar just shot up a whole lot more in the past day! ;)

Yes - that is the snap ring I was talking about. The easiest thing to do is to get 2 small screw drivers or even 2 small allen wrenches and put one against one side and use the other one to pop off the snap ring. Do it somewhere where you wont loose it as you need it for the new piece. It comes off easier then you think.

Let me know if this doesn't help.

Also remove all the little "tape covers" and screws and save them for the new piece.

Thanks for the advice Nick, I'll try removing that pin once my new 'thingy' arrives. For now I've screwed it all back in so I don't lose any of the screws.
