Air Filter

ditto on that. id like to see the proof.but also it may be very easy to produce a filter that flows more air thus out preforming but at what cost to the motor.even with my oem airbox and k&n drop in filter I inspect and clean my thottle body monthly and replace oil at 2500 miles mobil 1. just to be safe,before k&n changed oil 3000k

Have had bad experiences with any foam air filters. My last car, legend, after removing a wepon R there was a light film of dust on the inside of the throttle body. This was after 3 months of use and i dont think that the filter had different layers of foam. On the other hand, I have tried K&N and Apexi on the NSX, with the Apexi yielding superior filtration performance over all even the oily K&N. There was a comparison done by a group that i downloaded from this sight a while ago. You might still be able to find it.

Could you please describe how you determined "superior filtration performance"? Did this comparison include the OEM filter? Is it based on lack of foriegn matter in the throttle body?

I ask because it has been proven on a dyno that all these aftermarket filters do nothing for HP gains, at least on the NSX. So I cannot see why anyone would not just use the one that Honda intended.

Mind you I am not a complete OEM freak, I have aftermarket headers, etc. on my car, but I firmly beleive that the longest overall engine life will be with the OEM air filter.

I also appreciate the maintenance schedule that BadCarma does, but why? Put in the OEM filter and change it every 30K.

I watch the president of K & N on commercials on the "Speed" channel with his tux on and say

I have not done a dyno on my car yet with the Apexi filter. I did a dyno before and after headers&exhaust. I will know the exact gain when I do another dyno.
To answer your question (superior performance) I was referring to how well the filter element filtered out dust based on inspection of the internals (oil color, throttle ect) and the site that RyRy210 posted.
I am with you on OEM filters. It was my last mod because I want my engine to stay clean/strong for as long as possible so I was reluctant to remove it until I reserched Apexi. Now, after I dyno with the apexi and there are 0-1hp gain, I will probably return to stock with just a cold air intake

Hey Larry..no flame. in fact since having put the k&n in I see no noticable difference other then in the throttle body.it is going back to oem. I think they have proven the oem cold air box and oem filter to be better then a/m . now that speaks loudly or maybe not loud enough for some..I am going to keep my paranoid maintenance schedule still

the k&n drop in was R&D.it will be for sale in the markets section soon for a few bucks

At $49.95 for the filter element, and slightly higher for a cone setup, both of which will last the life of the car, the one thing the K&N is not is overpriced. The benefits may be questionable, but it's certainly not a lot of money.
