You guys that say there is no H.P. gain from exhaust only are wrong.I spoke at length with Bob from Comptech this weekend at Laguna Seca and he assured me 8-10 H.P. gain.Dyno charts apparently show this gain. With I.H.E. shows 26-30 H.P. gain.Correct me if i am wrong

HP Gains does not mean there is a performance gain. I have seen exhaust systems that give a peak HP gain by sacraficing power in the low - mid power ranges. You have to ask urself how much of the HP gain is actually usable? I can understand how a better exhaust will help a header expel gases and create more power, but I still think that with just an exhaust its more for sound and looks. I see more and more exhaust systems emphasize weight reduction as well.

You're wrong. The Comptech numbers tend to be "optimistic" to put it euphemistically. While possibly achievable, most people realize less than that cited by CT. Not that exhausts and the like don't help, but don't expect 30 HP from I/H/E. If you do get that, consider yourself lucky. After sorting through the dyno data from 4 different events, I've never seen 30 HP gain from that combo.

I'd agree with what others have said, and I'll expand on RyRy210's point. Peak power alone proves nothing. What matters is always the area under the power curve in the RPM range between gears. Slightly simplified, what is the average power from say 5500 to 8000? If you mods bump the peak up 20 or 30 HP but it sags in the middle like an old nag, then in the real world you will have a net loss. Fact is, even if you always shift at redline every time you drive your car, you are at that peak HP level only a very small percent of the time. Peak numbers are sometime just for bragging rights.

BTW, CT does quote unrealistic numbers, just like nearly every other vendor in the market. That’s been verified countless times.

If hp is what you are looking for from a comptech product, their headers will net more hp gain for you vs. just their exhaust. Of course this is pre-97 cars.

Although a member on this board is working on a true dueal chamber exhaust that allegedly gives 14 or 15rwhp gain. This looks like a promising product, although it is not in production yet.

What's the latest on your project?

havent dynoed before and after with tubi, but i can say that it doesnt feel like much if any hp gain. the total experience, however, is vastly improved. nsx 'sounds' faster, but objectively i dont think im really going any faster, well technically im probably going faster but not because of additional hp

I don't doubt you. Do you have a before number from the same dyno for comparison? Do you have the full dyno chart? That way we can see the details of the gain.

Again, I don't doubt that real gains are possible, especially on the 3.0, I just question the accuracy of CTs claims and more importantly the true overall performance gains.

I'm sure I have the chart somewhere, but I doubt that I'd be able to find and post it by the end of this century. But the gains I edxperienced were very perceptible in the "seat of my pants", as they say.
