Cold, snow north...
I want to put all my none dailies on some type of lower insurance plan.

I plan on only driving my NSX ~5000miles a year, my 750iL, around ~5000 miles as well and my 328GTS around 2000 miles a year.

As of now I have 'normal' insurance for 2 of the cars (just got the 328 and no insurance yet)

Any recommendations? I want to use sometype of collector car insurance to keep the payemnts reletively speaking low.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?
Help is much appreciated.

3 cars to be put on collector car insurance: 98 BMW 750iL, 97 NSXt 6spd, 88 Ferrari 328GTS

that only works if the car is 15 years old or older.

Won't your 328 be 15 in a few weeks?

Furthermore, Grundy has no age limit.

Chops,

Agreed.

Determining the value of a rare car like the NSX can't be done accurately from the Blue Book or other traditional methods used for cars that are commonplace.

a couple of others you might want to try:

Leland West - Very involved with Porsche and recommended by the PCA. (Agreed value)www.lelandwest.com

Unitrin Direct - My wife and I insure our 89 911 cab, E46 M3, 98 NSX-T and Audi Allroad, great price (half of State Farm Mutual) www.unitrindirect.com

I know several NSX owners who have had their cars totalled following an accident. In each case, they received a price that was at least fair market price, and sometimes quite generous.

Of course, this is no guarantee that you will receive what your car is worth, and I am not saying that agreed-value insurance is a bad idea, particularly for a heavily-modded car. I am only noting that the unrealistically low values often found on some of the used car valuation websites are not necessarily representative of what your insurance company will pay off in the event of an accident.

Is there any downside to these insurance companies like availability for claims or limiting protection for something like a cracked windshield? It just seems like the quote I got was very low $524. Less than half of what I am paying now. Shame on me if the coverage and convenience is the same.

Just over $400/yr for my 91 NSX.

P.S., Autoraptor - you sure have lots of nice cars for being a student! Do you deal drugs on the side?

Leland West : told me that they choose not to insure the NSX. I would like to hear what they tell someone else. I asked them why, I was told that the owner of the company chose not to.

Phoen$x,

I looked into american hobbyist as well and was told that they will only insure IF the NSX is used as a showcar and for NSX club meets. They were very adamant about that when I spoke with them. I mean, they won't even like for you to take it out for dinner!

Did you encounter the same?

Here are the conditions and features of the American Hobbyist policy:

EDIT: here's the application guidelines, with more info on requirements/conditions:

I thought it might be a good fit for Autoraptor's needs as originally posted.

Yes, they would like to know where you plan to take the car (just a simple statement included with the application is fine), and for policies over $25k (I think) they want interior and exterior photos. Other than that it's pretty straightforward.

American Hobbyist was the ONLY insurance company I found that will even consider the NSX. Talk about not getting any respect, all the other collector insurance companies I checked with snubbed their noses as soon as they heard the word "Acura."

P.S., I am pretty pissed at Grundy. Part of the basis for my NSX purchase was that they agreed to insure it for $400/yr, but when I called after the purchase they flat out refused to write a policy for it. I scrambled, and (luckily) found American Hobbyist.

What if it's an NSX Club dinner meet?
