I got my windshield replaced for ~$400. They claim its factory. I would like to know how can one determine if the replacement was factory or some cheap version? It seemed they did a crap job of it cause the windshield "dip" into the car. It seemed they did not replace the lower spacer, defrost panel seals, or rubber damn. DAMN! (Why me? Why me?)

I had mine replaced and they quoted me $900 for factory glass. They ended up using what they called "PPG" for several hundred dollars less. $400 sounds like a great price to me but not if it doesn't fit the same. You may want to have another glass company give you a second opinion about what was used on yours.

Your insurance company should be able to give you some help in this.

Update:

Went there this morning and show them the problem. The desk guy tried to convince me it was *ok* for the windshield trim to be loose. I told him (in not so many word) dude, you can take a pencil and stick it into the gap. We argue for 10 min and just when I was about to offer him a ride to the dealership to inspect the windshield on the new NSX, he gave up. Next I spoke to the repair guy and he agreed the windshield was uneven. The part that was messed was the side where you can see the VIN. The windshield was pressed up again the VIN (you can see the unevenness along the black marks on the windshield and the defront vents) and it was not even touching the trim. He just agreed to replace it with another one. However, I'll have to wait until I come back from vacation...sometime next year. This better not cost me anything. As for the rubber dam, they decide to use some other *stuff* in place of the OEM for faster drying. And as for the factory glass claim, he said they get it from the company that make them. Well, if I do get some cheap glass and it doesn't fit then they'll just hae to do it again. So I'll just have to see when I come back for round 2. In the meantime, he just glued the trim to the windshield and set me off. Hmm!

I dont know in your state, but here in Florida most of the bigger insurance companies, cover the windsheild 100% with no deductible.
hope this helps

Yup, you should definitely call your auto insurance or just take a glance at your insurance coverage detail to see if you have what is called Glass Coverage Buyback.

I just had my enter windshield replaced with a brand new factory windshield from Acura for $100. The windshield itself is $700 as priced from the Acura parts department. The glass coverage is part of auto insurance comprehensive coverage and is not subject to your normal deductible rules. Fixing the windshield for any chips or cracks should be free with this same glass coverage.

if i remember correctly, a quick thing to check is the stamp on the glass, should say HONDA, or ASAHI(sp?)... my understanding was ASAHI, was OEM, and HONDA was also OEM. someone else may be able to shed light here...

ive seen NSX with windshields replaced, and some dont have the ASAHI stamp, those were from independent glass makers...

just my thought on it, maybe it will help ya....

I had the windshield replaced about 3 weeks ago and the job was done right by a company called "Safelite". Safelite is nation wide so there will probably be a shop near you. Anyway, I requested (through my insurance) to have the windshield replaced with factory glass. I know it is factory glass because I saw the Honda box it came out of and in the lower left hand side, etched in the glass it reads HONDA. There was also a sticker that read "Made in Japan. To be removed by the customer only".

Safelite did an excellent job. My only complaint is the new molding doesn't look as good as what I had on, but only because it doesn't have the 15 coats of Zaino

Did you shop around, and go to the glass shop with the lowest price, rather than the dealer or the glass shop with the best reputation? If so, that answers your question.

I recently had my windshield replaced as well. It cost me $100 bucks because I have a deductible on my comprehensive (Allstate policy). I went to Safelite (as had been recommended in previous threads), a national chain I believe. At first they wanted to install PPG OEM glass. I said no and forced them to use "dealer" glass, which they agreed to. They managed the entire process with Allstate.

The new windshield had the Asahi and the Honda logos in the corner. They did a great job and replaced the upper molding as well.

My 1993 had the glass replaced 3 years ago at the dealership; they contracted out the labor to Harmon Glass Company. On the lower “drivers side” (right of the VIN) the following is etched in the glass …

HONDA
LAMISAFE
(DIAMOND LOGO) ASAHI
MS741 AS1
DOT-20
E6 43R-009459

The glass has “The parts list and prices as followed.

8 EA 74207-SL0-000 CLIP, FR WINDSHIELD 4.23 EA 33.84

sorry guys.. off topic..

I've seen dali selling this plastic like window glass replacement for weight saving.. I wonder have anyone do the same on the windshield? sure it will reduce hella weight there...

Slingshot you beat me to it!
My windsheild was replaced 2 weeks ago. I used the Acura dealership to get the parts ordered thru them. They brought in Harmon glass who actually did a great job.
All parts were OEM and the best part is the entire job was payed by the insurance co.
Maybe Fla does have 1 good regulation.
