Horrific Horn-Hunting Frenzy!!!

Has anyone (besides me) been pushing the middle of the stock wheel trying to get the horn to beep while someone was backing into your NSX? In the panic of the moment I forgot the two side buttons and hit the airbag about 7 times on reflex motor skills!!!

I prefer the little buttons over the entire-airbag-surface area buttons.

Why? What if in a REAL panic situation, you slam your palm in the center to
honk your horn... and crash... and the airbags deploy... what would
happen? That freaks me out...

And I don't even want to think about the poor schlubs who smoke a pipe while driving...

i'm no expert, but u'd find that the airbag would still deploy. even if u'd placed ur hand over the entire center, the airbag should still pop out and deploy around the edges.

honda would have designed with this in mind. if not, u have discovered a big scam...

If the Matrix is real, then the NSX is just a figment of your imagination.

I have the opposite problem where in my MDX, I keep trying to hit the spoke or edge of the hub for the horn but the sensor is only in the middle!

Sounds like you guys need a chain to pull… (as in a truck)

I did that the first week I had my NSX when someone backed into the street I was going down. I tried the middle of the steering wheel and then all the levers left and right and finally found the horn. I ended up stopped with my lights on, windshield wipers on, washer fluid on windshield and hazards on. By the time I found the horn I was stopped.

Indeed it would. I have a friend who is an insurance adjuster. He went to do an estimate for a client. The client had a son who was not in the car at the time of the accident , as a reflex reaction the client swung his hand across the passengers seat to protect his child. His hand was perpendicular to the passengers air bag when the air bag deployed. The force of the air bag removed all of his fingernails on his right hand. OUCH.

Yes.. I also. My horn has been silent on the few occasions that I wanted to use it because i'm pressing the center of the airbag. Hitting the little buttons requires conscious thought which I'm not used to in a panic situation when you go on instinct.

The coolest horn was in my bro's 68 Olds 98 where you just squeezed anywhere on the steering wheel rim.

Also, I'd imagine that if your hand was in the way of the airbag when it deployed, you would have injury to your hand and face. I hope you and I never find out.

I owned my car 1 week and was taking a aquaintance on a demo ride when someone went to pass a car in the oncoming lane that was waiting to make a left across my lane.
An ugly head on collision in the making.
I and went between him and the car he was passing (he went to my right to make the turn) and to my passengers amazement still hit the horn which was right under my thumb.
Didn't have to take my hands off the wheel or look for it. A nice piece of well designed ergonomics.
To me the horn button in the center is Flintstone stuff.
Keep your hands on the wheel and bring on the paddle shifter!

Nothing's worse than the horn button on a Grand Cherokee. You have to hit the little bugle icon in the center of the airbag precisely & sharply to sound the horn. Useless and dangerous!

Just be glad you don't have a Peugeot. All the ones I've seen/driven in the past few years have their horn button on the outboard of the turn signal stalk. So, you are essentially pushing the turn signal stalk inwards towards the steering column.

Exactly. I wouldn't want to find out what happens to my hands, face (and/or EYES!) if I had my palm slammed in the center of the wheel honking the horn in an accident. (Excuse the poor grammar.)

pbassjo is right on the money with his post.

The horn on my Hummer H1 is the same, VERY AGGRAVATING.
