Gull Wing Nsx

There is a company that does this for about 3k. They use the NSX as their advertisement. It actually looks fantastic although I would never do it to mine....... unless I had a fairly high mileage one that I was going to keep forever and showed or raced it. It really does look great on an NSX. It should've been that way to begin with. By the way, they are not 'gullwing' but rather lambo style; kind of forward and up.

What is the name of the place that does it? I would like to see the pics of it. Thanks

I saw some work from R&S Kustums -- their website is currently down. Todd, are these the folks you mentioned ??

See a sample Mitsu Eclipse here --> http://www.angelfire.com/de2/randskustumz/newscissordoor.html

thanks for the info and input .....this was exactly what i was looking for but did not know the exact terminology for that style door... i have seen interga's, mustangs and a few other cars done and i was curious as to what your thoughts were on doin this to a nsx....thanks all....Bailey

I've got to believe that such a conversion on an NSX would be a bad idea. The NSX is designed for doors that open to the side. That means that it is built to withstand the stresses of a door that closes in, not down. Similarly, the tightness of fit and adjustments are done using that assumption. Changing the direction in which the doors open is similar to installing an aftermarket sunroof, in that there's a great risk of introducing rattles and leaks that way.

Hey! :)

So far, no rattles or leaks from the sunroof.

Slight leak/wind noise from the driver's door - I think a repair wasn't done well, I'm going to have to find out more about this.

You should probably convert just the driver's side door to a scissor style!

Unfortunately, the ones I've seen don't look like they make it any easier to get out of the car!

More likely just the window coming out of alignment. Fairly common with flush mounted windows like the NSX has. Full details on ajusting the fit in the repair manual on this site.

This is by noted BMW tuner Hamann, and can be found at http://www.online-supercars.com/supercars/bmw_m3_hamann_seca_2.htm

##############

The HAMANN Laguna Seca II was developed as jubilee car on occasion of the 15th anniversary of HAMANN Motorsport. The HAMANN Laguna Seca II with gullwing doors and 6.1 litre V12 engine is based on the top-of-the line model of the 3-series range. The 480 bhp HAMANN powerplant makes the silver rocket 312 km/h fast. It is hand-made to order for a retail price of 500 000 DM. The choice of name is coming from the 1988 HAMANN Laguna Seca.

The HAMANN Laguna Seca II is manufactured based on a reinforced M3 bodyshell and demonstrates how a high performance street car based on a BMW can look like in the 21st century. The HAMANN gullwing doors stands out against conventional constructions by its innovative design. In addition HAMANN modifies the bodywork with sporty bodystyling components from the HAMANN tuning range for the current M3. The three-piece Hamann Motorsport PG3 light alloy wheels measure 19' in diamter, and provide the Seca II with ample road-presence and grip
