Just though I would pass along the inflated estimate I got today from one of only two Acura dealers here in KC

Water Pump 220.46
TBelt Cover 170.91
Timing Belt 163.80
Alt " 31.16
Comp " 16.71

Labor @ 11hrs 1034.00

Misc. + Tax for a total of $1724.00

What a great deal....Anyone care to submit to me what they have recently paid for this service. I'm certain w/NXSCA membership i'm going elsewhere for the parts at a better price, but the labor on this blows and i'll try to talk them down, but I don't know if anyone else has had any luck w/this.

Gonna call on the other Acura dealership to get another quote.

Definitely sounds high by several hundred dollars.

And what is the deal with dealer labor rates in Missouri? $94/hour in Kansas City? They're $100/hour in St. Louis, too. I know for a fact that the cost of living there is less than in Chicago, yet the hourly rates here are typically around $85 (and even less, around $75, in Milwaukee where the cost of living is less than Chicago).

Tom-
St. Louis Acura charged me $630 labor for the Tbelt Water Pump replacement. Brought in my own parts ($300 including acc. belts). Seemed like a fair price to me.

I had mine done for under 1k as well. In both of my cars.

A good tech can do this w/o removing the engine. I have seen it done. It saves HOURS of time on the R/R.

Here is what I got from the other dealership this morning.
1)Head Gskt cover 38.44
2) " B cover 21.00
3)Coolant 13.48
4)Comp. Belt 15.84
5)Alt. " 30.60
6)WP 224.88
7)Adjuster 119.65
8)T Belt 160.08
9)Grommet 7.20
10)TB Cover 165.99
Total 797.54

Labor (5hrs) 377.64

Total w/tax(60.02) 1175.18
They are going to honor the 10% discount for NSXCA member so the final cost is:

$1057.66
Also requesting the original TB cover be used again with the hole drilled for hose which will save some $'s. Funny thing is that after I spoke w/the service rep he called back and told me that was old pricing on the labor and it should have been $552.59 ($1429.76) or $1286 w/discount which they honor, but they are sticking w/the original quote. Nice enough at Superior Acura, but still higher than what others are paying from what I've seen. I guess that what it takes when 2 dealerships exist in the area and its reasonable enough considering what the other smucks quoted. Gonna see what pricing is for me just buying the parts outside the dealership and have them shipped.

Tom,

Is my understanding correct that they have not seen your car at all yet?? I ask because there are a few more things to look at to make sure they go in there once. It does not look like they are doing a valve adjustment (although I do not know your mileage) but it will be apart, so you will save some repeat labor. Also there is no mention of cam plugs and seals, this IS the time to have the cam plugs done at least, unless your engine is BONE dry with no minor leaks at the back end of the cams.

What is your mileage? Have you reviewed the service manual for all that should be done, or are you just getting the wp/t-belt done?

I would just hate to see you have to go back for an oil leak within 12 months or less.

$1200-1300 is a typical price for this service. Those who are paying much less than that are getting a terrific bargain and/or taking advantage of the dealership's willingness to perform service using parts purchased elsewhere at a discount.

So that means they raised their labor rate from $75/hour to $110/hour

Check with the dealership before ordering the parts. Some dealerships may refuse to do work (or to warranty work) using parts purchased elsewhere. Also, discuss with the parts department; they may be willing to lower their price and meet the discounts you can get elsewhere.

One other thing to consider - this might be a good time to have the cooling system hoses replaced.

I think I got my WP/TB/60k service for about $1600. I told the service manager I wanted 10% good customer discount(which they offer often thru the internet) and they said ok though they weren't really offering the discount at the time.

Guys,

With all these prices being thrown around be careful that we are comparing apples to apples. Changing the timing belt/water pump vs. changing the timing belt/water pump AND a 60K service are two very different things, both parts and labor. The 60K service includes plugs,air/oil/fuel filters, valve adjustment(I recall the valve adjust quoted at $250 a while ago in another thread), that's about another $150 min. for parts alone, and I do not have all of it. The 60K service also includes a full brake flush, including ABS, and a replacement ABS high pressure hose, If they are doing it by the book. Also throw in a trans service (oil change).

ak,

You got a lot more then just the t-belt and WPO changed!! I think your price for the 60K and wp/tb is very fair. Do you know if they looked at the cam plugs??

Typical cost of a 60K service is around $800-1000. Getting a 60K and a TB/WP for $1600 is a great bargain!!!

Larry & others,

I have right at 30,000 miles (96) on the car. 3k miles ago the valves were adjusted and tranny flushed. Have been doing some preventative maint. myself over the winter and the engine is bone dry in regards to those other mentioned items. I bought the car from the original owner 1 year ago and I have all service records from him and didn't see where any of the other hoses were replaced, otherwise the care has been well maintained throughout and is up to date on service. I'll observe the hoses again but they appear in good shape and the ABS system will be flushed b/f I take it for the TB/WP.

Also, will verify the cost of service with me supplying parts.

Tom, I had my TB/WP and it included other 2 drive belts, gasket covers, lower TB cover, for $1100 3 weeks ago. Also they did my 60 service with all the above mentioned items for $799 but I got it for $580 bc I brought my own plugs ($130), minus oil change ($29), and minus air filter ($60). I shopped around and my dealer was willing to match prices. But make sure its apples for apples bc they will call up the other dealer to make sure the service is the same. They also threw in a free Detail/Wash. Not bad.

Ed

Ed Where did you get yours done? Thanks Gil

oh I forgot to mention. It did not include air filter, and spark plugs as I changed them on my own. Not sure if they looked at the cam plug.(I doubt it) Sorry for leaving those out. It was fair since WP/TB was about 1200 and 60k minus what I mentioned was about 600, then take 10% off of that.
