Glad you're pleased.

I hate coconut, had no idea the stuff smelled that way.

I've got some McGuiars tire protectant gel that smells deliciously like grape bubblegum. However, I am not impressed with it. I found I still prefer ArmorAll for my tires. Maybe I should taste it, who knows, maybe it was filled with the wrong stuff and is grape bubblegum flavor. I know it also comes out of the bottle purple.

How much was it?

That does not sound like the "real" Zymol products, the ones that are made in Connecticut; an 8-ounce jar of Zymol Japon wax, for example, generally costs around $30 and is not available at most stores. (The Chicago-made products that you find at many stores are rebadged Turtle Wax products.)

NSXTASY.. what do you think of this one http://www.zymol.com/hd2.htm
the HS Cleanse
will it manage to remove some clear coat scratch?

HD-Cleanse removes oxidation and light scratches, primarily as a chemical abrasive more so than a physical abrasive. It's very mild. I think it's great for occasional, routine use (once or twice a year).

However, as I noted in the other topic, I think Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover is a better product for scratches; it's a bit more abrasive than HD-Cleanse, but it's fine enough that it leaves the finish smooth and ready to wax when you're done. The Meguiars Scratch-X and the 3M brand of swirl remover are similar products to the Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover and any one of these should be good for scratches.

Do you know if any of these swirl remover products are silicon based?

I looked up (here) the ingredients of the Meguiars #9 product based on information in their Material Safety Data Specification, and it notes the following ingredients:

- DISTILLATES (PETROLEUM), ACID-TREATED LIGHT *98-2*
- GROG; CALCIUM-BARIUM PHOSPHOSILICATE, ALUMINUM SILICATE FLUX *98-2*
- AMORPHOUS SILICA, AMORPHOUS-DIATOMACEOUS EARTH
- HYDROTREATED MIDDLE PETROLEUM DISTILLATE, PETROLEUM SOLVENT
- 9-OCTADECENOIC ACID (OLEIC ACID) (EMERSOL 210)
- SODIUM DIOCTYL SULFOSUCCINATE *98-2*
- CONDITIONERS

I am not a chemist but I see that the dictionary definition for "silica" is silicon dioxide, so I suspect the answer to your question is yes.

I couldn't find Scratch-X or the 3M product in the MSDS database after a brief search, so I can't assume one way or the other whether or not there is silicon in those products.

Yup, whs noted where you can get more information about it. You can get it direct from Zymol (don't forget to ask for your discount as a member of the NSX Club of America) or you can look up the name of your nearest retailer here. Call ahead because most retailers might not have the NSX wax in stock.

No more wax discussions please.

Don't wanna get the Zaino and Meguiars people getting into this too.

I know how benevolent the thread started but sometimes, the most innocent of threads can get very ugly, really fast.

Then Lud has to come in here and stop everything. It's not worth it.

The easiest way to get a discussion to stop is to not post to it. For example, let's say someone made a nasty personal attack in a topic and, after a few responses, no one had posted to that topic for 24 hours. Chances are that that topic would die a quiet death. However, if you then posted "somebody ought to lock this topic" there, it would zoom to the top of the forum list where people will look at it again. This increases the likelihood of the topic staying alive and active. So if you want a topic to die off, don't post to it.

Well, this topic has already brought up Meguiars (and 3M, too, if anyone is keeping track).

However, your point is well taken. There is a topic here in the Off Topic Forum which is designed for Zymol-related questions, and there is a similarly-named topic in that forum for Zaino-related questions.

Sorry this is off topic, but I feel that the entire reason we come here is to discuss our passion for the NSX, and other fine motor cars. A lot of new members ask the same questions I did (you might have as well) and the questions were answered by knowledgeable members of this form despite their repetitive nature.

Nsxtsy is a true asset to this community. He shares his wealth of information and help a lot of owners better understand their cars. I have learned a lot from his posts and will learn more. The great wax debate may drag on, but each time new information is shared. Further, new detailing techniques are explained as well.

I feel everyone should feel comfortable posting questions, comments, and opinions. This is what creates the NSX community.

Hi nsxparts.com,

I appreciate the kind words - really I do - and I also agree that we should be able to discuss and address issues that concern NSX owners. The more information all of us can provide, the better.

That being said, I also feel that, if there are topics on which we disagree, and we can discuss them in a different section of NSXprime without experiencing the level of confrontation that sometimes arises in the General Discussion forum, so much the better. This is exactly why Jimbo and I set up those topics in the Off Topic forum to discuss the Zxxxx detailing products. (And that's why I included a link to the Zymol topic in my first post in this topic.)

Yes, there should be no problem in discussing waxes and techniques. There are people who use and like Zymol and those of us who like Zaino and those who use other products.

As Ken pointed out, there's a place for Zymol discussions and a place...

http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/001084.html

...for Zaino discussions.

I do want to comment on the "silicon" question raised by nsxxtreme however.

I suspect you were asking if these swirl products had "silicone" instead of "silicon." But I could be wrong, but if I'm not....

Of course, there's a big difference. Silica, silicon dioxide is essentially sand. It's an obvious abrasive. Silicone is not an abrasive.

Silicones (and other plant oils) are typically added to conventional carnauba waxes in order to make them soft enough to use and to increase the shine. Many of the combo wax-cleaner products out there do the same thing.
