I was in hong kong and bought some DVD's... Toy Story one and Toy Story two.

I want to be able to watch these on my new big screen HDTV!!

But my new Sony Playstation2 SCPH-30001 won't play them because of the region restrictions.

Anyone have any ideas about how to get around this? I've done countless searches on all the major search engines -
www.google.com www.yahoo.com www.msn.com -for God's sake www.altavista.com

and all the others i could find... found info on how to copy PS2 games (not what i'm into) and how to install various chips on alllllll the other versions of the PS2 other than mine! Which is the SCPH 30001 US model.

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks,

If I were you, I would hold off a bit although I'm sure it's frustrating. All the current chips still don't work all that well and Sony keeps defeating them. I know people who bought chips, went through all the trouble of getting them in there, and it being obsolete a month later. That and they don't always work too well. They're still just crude hacks. I'm sure in time a better chip will be released like the one for the DC.
What I'm doing is keeping my eyes open and waiting for a good one to be released that I can trust. It's not worth screwing up your expensive import PS2. The current chips don't even do everything yet. I was looking for a chip so I could play US PS2 games on my import system, and one still isn't available. You can only play backup copies.

thats one of the main reasons i bought the ps2... for the fact that its a badass console w/ a dvd player in it...

If it is just DVD movie region coding you are trying to steer around, I recently saw something about a mod for the PS2 that specifically addresses this, but it sounds a bit involved (more trouble than it is worth).

Unfortunately, I think the only way you will be able to have a region-free DVD playing PS2 is to get one of the first generation Japanese PS2s.

I don't know what I hate more, region coded movies or region coded games.
