Interesting 1988 Saab Video

Interesting video, Ken. I have a similar video that was made for promotional material in Taiwan during the mid 90's when they were beginning to market Saabs there. It is of the newer model 9000's and they get even crazier than in that video. Really does show you that it IS about driver skill and not just the car. I've driven tons of those things and could never get it to do anything like that!

I saw those ppl perform live at an airshow here in sweden long time ago...pretty amazing stuff...they ended the show with 5 minutes of burnouts and even crashing one of the saabs on purpose

Very interesting video. I didn't quite understand the red convertible accelerating to a rather large speed bump (if you want to call it that) blowing out both tires. Did I miss something?

What puzzles me is when they put the cars up on 2 wheels, how do they accelerate? Wont the diff just transfer all the power to the wheel in the air?

Also, whats with the speed bump thing and the red car?

I can't comment on this video yet, as I haven't watched it, but I have been meaning to post a question re: Saabs for some time now. No one ever mentions them here. They seem to be well made, reliable and sporty making a great daily driver/family car. A friend of mine who owns an older model loves it, and claims his dealer treats him like gold, and thier service is second to none. Any thoughts?

If you notice after driving over the bump, the driver throws both his hands up in the air to show that the car still drives straight and doesn't lose control due to the blowout. The newer video I have shows this same stunt much clearer.

Saabs are great cars with a very loyal group of repeat buyers. Older models were somewhat problematic, quirky vehicles earning them quite a reputation. The newer (9-3's, 9-5's) are exactly as you decribed. Sporty, well made, reliable. I also think they are an excellent value and really a lot of car for the money. Saabs take huge depreciation hits, making a second-hand vehicle even greater of a deal. They are now almost all factory turbocharged with luxury features (leather, wood dash, CD, heated seats, etc) for a bargain price. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the explanation. If you have a newer version of this movie, post a link to it.
