General Observation

After poking around this forum, my intial thoughts regarding wealth have been confirmed....the real $$ (and professional satisfaction) is not in working for someone else!!!!!
I am a CL owner, and like most other CL owners, work for very large and well respected company. Fact of the matter is, want a CL - go work for the Fortune 500. Want an NSX - start your own business!. Sure, there are plenty of exceptions, but I was taken aback by the number of business owners on this board. One idea, all I need is one idea, some hardwork, a little luck and I will be back as the proud owner of an NSX on of these days!

You are probably right about the real $$ and professional satisfaction but not about owning an NSX. If you are buying new, maybe but there are many people buying used which is not out of range for most middle class people.

And if you're in the right type of business (probably auto-affiliated of some sort) you may be able to write it off.

I'm actually thinking about getting an NSX as a 'company car' through my Real Estate company....hmm, will have check with the accountant on this one

Hey Awais, I didn't know you were in Real Estate biz. This is totally off topic, but what is the pricerange of a nice townhouse in chicago suburbs these days? Nice as in 2bath 2-3 bedroom with 1-2 garage. Anything under 200k or is that a wishful thinking?

Hey. I'm primarily in the IT field, but my dad owns a Real Estate firm, in which I am a partner as well as a licensed business broker.

I checked my MLS system, and the home you're looking for is definitely do-able within that price range with even a 2 car garage.

I'm one of those "exceptions". I'm not a business owner, and frankly, I don't want to be. Nor am I a VP or other executive -- I'm just a working computer bloke. I got my NSX through careful saving and investing -- and with the help of the late 90s raging stock market. It took me 8 years to grow the money for my car, and I finally bought it in April 2000. Looking at the stock market since then, I'd say it's probably my best investment

Actually, the price of a new CL is not very far off from the price of a quality used NSX.

I've met plenty of NSX owners who are neither company executives nor business owners.

there are also some very high paid sales positions that generate six-figure plus nsx buying incomes...

and i echo the comment that you could have a used nsx for the similiar price of a new cl.

Unfortunately I'm still in DC so I won't be able to make it. We'll definitely have to set up the ride along sometimes when I get back.

I'm sure I'll be laughing not because of the laughing gas but because it's unreal. You'll be giving those viper a serious run...

True. I have seen quite a few pre-owned NSX's in the 30 - 35K range. I'm just out of school for about 8 months, so I leased the CL to keep my payment low. I know, not a great all around financial decision (I work as a financial analyst), but as you know, cars are a passion that will cause you to do some things based on emotion rather than logic. As I start to build a career and asset base, I will save some w/ an eye to buying my next car. A pre-owned NSX will certainly be on the list.

I agree 100% there. It's like, oh I want better sounding exhaust. Bam $1000. Oh I want a little more power. Header Bam Wham $1000-1600. I wanna stop better. Shazam! Brakes $600. And pretty much it never stops.... Anyhow, It sounds like you are making very logical and good choices for yourself. In no time, you'll be one of us doing things based upon passion and emotion and not go bankrupt(in my case, close but not quite....yet

I am, like a few others, neither a business owner (thank god) or a resident of mahogony row (c-level executive). I am though, an outgoing mildly intelligent individual blessed with a good job working with good people.

I for one am very glad that I don't own my own business and I'm not a VP or equivalent executive. The pressure and stress my bosses have to deal with would not, for me, be a welcome addition to my job.

I am actually a business owner. I have a catering company that has done quite well. Being only twenty five and no real experience in cooking I was able to start with less than 3000 dollar if you can believe that. The entreprenuer is a different breed. I figure the only risk I have is the fear of not knowing what I could have done but I was too scared to do anything about it. To comment about the stress factor, in the long term I think it would be more stressful having a morgage, cars, family and getting laid off for some kid that is half your age and they pay them twice as less.
To each their own. Luck is only preparation meets opportunity.

Gotta run and work on the new project!!!

I agree, it is not necessary to be a business owner or have a high paying job (though it helps

) to own an NSX. An older model NSX is about the same price as a new SUV these days, and you don't think all those soccer moms are married to corporate executives do you?

Owning your own business is great if you are willing to take the risk and put in the time, but I prefer to live frugally spend my time/resources on the things that I enjoy--cars!
