I believe you just pull the hood switch, not short it too. Test the switch to make sure you just didn't enable condition.
Also, it really sounds like you have a corroded door switch...it comes up from time to time.
I know this has been discussed before, but I am having a hard time with the alarm system. In fact, it got so bad that it was stolen from the apartments and recovered a week later. I just got it back after several headaches and 3 months in the body shop.
Anyway, first things first, it has a Viper installed over the top of the existing factory alarm system. I don't know the details of the install since it was done by an import shop back home that sells Viper alarms. That alarm does not seem to be the trouble since that siren/horn never goes off and the remote shows no indication of trouble.
Basically, the factory system goes off shortly after engaging the alarm or locking the doors with the door switch (which sets the factory alarm). Either way, it takes anywhere from 1 - 15 minutes for it to go off and its only the factory system not the Viper. I tried pulling the hood switch and shorting the two contacts together with a paper clip and that seemed to hold it off the longest @ 20 mins. before I just about threw a match to it. I did notice that the door indicator LED's flashed even with the paper clip jumper. If this tricks the security control box shouldn't those be off?
Anyway, I'm about out of ideas except for trading it off for an old Datsun B210. Those gutless cars were like the Energizer bunny and God bless the man that rear-ended my grandmother in her "puke" yellow 210 while sitting at a red light. Who knows, I may have had to finish my high school driving career in that thing!![]()

I tried with and without the jumper and the system still engaged. I don't know how that is possible. Electrical gremlins are so frustrating...
I think the next place to look is a corroded door latch
