So I had heard of the new REM album a few weeks ago here in UK. Had no idea when it would be released, or if the songs had been playing in the U.S. for months. I hadn't heard any of the songs -- just that the album was pretty kickass.
LAST MONDAY: I'm in a cab on my way to the Verona, Italy airport from a nearby little town, and what do I hear? R.E.M.! And a song I had never heard before, so, clearly something from the new album. Sweet!
My Italian cab driver, that didn't speak a lick of English, was thumb-tapping his heart out to REM on the steering wheel, as I sat in the backseat enjoying a cool song and chuckling at a funny moment. It's little things like that which bring the world closer together, I think.
