Anyone else think dodge neon is over rated

It goes for the subies and evos as well. Its not so much the car cause i personally like the evo, its the drivers them selves. This is especially true for the neons. I had 3 try to race me in 1 week. Wtf. Its a dodge neon for god sake with a turbo and an exhaust that sounds like its detinating everytime they rev it. Is it just me or do these people really think their the s*^t or what. Almost everyone else just gives the wave of approval but the neons are always thinking they can win. It is just starting to bug me. Because even if i blew a rod and broke the car, its still an nsx and thats still a neon on steriods imo

The SRT4 Neon will eat up a NSX in a strait line. In 2004 SRT-4 had dynoed in at 233 wheel horsepower all for 20,000 dollars new. (That’s stock). It’s a turbo and Mopar has its back with a Factory backed 350hp kit under 1500 dollars. it’s a good thing you didn’t race because you would have gotten your *** handed to you by a Neon.

True at the end of the day you still have to drive a Neon. Its a turd, but a very fast turd.

Jeez guys take it easy on the pocket rocket crowd. All people are not lucky, fortunate or blessed enough to own a nsx. I remember when I could only afford a neon payment (even though I have never owned one). That group of cars are somewhat expensive brand new, and some people just love the 4cyl turbo car/crowd. Fairly easy to mod and fast enough for them also. Other than front wheel drive I feel the powertrain is worthy of the car. Yeah neons are not cool, but I also feel they are not all hating on luxury/exotic owners.

I'm not bashing folks that can't afford a better car. I'm basically bashing Dodge/Chrysler for not building a better looking pocket rocket for the younger crowd. The Neon is one of the worst quality cars built IMHO.

At least it's a car. For some reason I keep getting looks from guys in their raised pick up trucks lately. You know, the type of set up that screams "im extreme!". They sit next to me and spin their off road tires. Happened twice in the past year. Once on El Toro and Moulton, and once down by the Dana Point Harbor. Umm...

Hence the SRT4 will often target them.

Ur not alone. The FD guys get Neons chasing them too - banking on the FD blowing up during a race or a sick FD that is limping around.

And when u provide affordable HP you also attract "that sorta crowd" like the Mustang guys.

You know what, the SRT-4's where in my class of competitors back then...

I use to drive a built turbo 2000 Type-R, Yellow so they spot me from at least a mile away and cut through "TRAFFIC" to rev me up.....they use to be everywhere! Now I see about 1 a month!...goes to show you something about quality I guess....Its true its a younger crowd, this was back when I was 19-20 years old sitting on 320 Fw-hp which would of tore up NSX's...

But you know what, every time a I saw a nsx, I honked and gave the thumbs up out of respect....I didn't down shift and let my BOV off or try to run the dude.

there is no way this car serioulsy woud eat up a nsx. no way. And i not bagging on them for not buying an nsx, most cant cause a bank will not finance a 18 year old car or give 50g out to anyone now. But i bought my fd for 15g, which is what about 5 less than the fart can. Even a used evo or subie over the neon. Today i was at in and out and some dude got out of it with his friend, probably about 25 or 27, around that age and as i was getting in the car one guy looked and said "I bet you probably think you look pretty cool driving that don't you?" I looked at him and said "Yea, i do." Then he asked if it was a dodge or chevy?? I was like wtf. Its a honda and he said it doesn't have a h on the hood, so i had to tell him acura, manufactured by honda.

I would never bash on an SRT4, even though I don't want one now. I would have given my left nut for a car that fast when I was a kid with my first car in the early 70s.

Who the hell cares if a neon is faster in a straight line! I remember, back in the seventies, a stock VW beetle could beat a fully blown Vette from one stop sign to the next .......... "So What?"

When I bought my NSX I remember the teller at my bank telling me he had an SRT-4. I didn't want to bash his car since he sounded very proud of it and I knew very little about it, so I gave him the generic "that's cool" response. A couple days later I had to go back to the bank where the teller recognized me and pulled a picture of his highly modified SRT-4 and I still gave him the "that's cool" response again. Although I was not interested in his car, I was more impressed how proud he was and how much work he put into it. I believe the turbo on his car was about as big as my head.

That being said, I think I understand the frustration the OP states. I have always noticed people (not necessarily SRT-4 owners) having a tendency speed up to keep up with me or get super close to look and my car when I'm driving the NSX. Or sometimes they get some idea that racing down the freeway and flying by me will be exciting. In some ways I think it's a juvenile form of flattery. Personally, I just let it go since the risk:reward ratio isn't worth it.

+ for the truth. Many people would see an NSX and see it as an easy kill and it would be something that they would be proud of killing because it was once respected as a fast/quick car a decade ago, and it was expensive. I can take a lightly worked SRT4 but anything above that and I'm toast. Very mean sounding 4 cylinders with stout internals, and the car comes with no mufflers from the factory. Stock they make a nice burble sound under decel.

don't let the hp numbers fool you, they are known to dyno 230whp+ stock which puts them in the 260-270hp range stock.

I'm sorry but how would an SRT-4 eat up an NSX in a straight line? As someone else posted they're 1/4 mile times as 13.8 which is slightly slower then every manual NSX ever made. Obviously more power could be added for cheap but stock for stock i don't think they're would be much difference.

Let's face it gang. We are blessed to own one of the most beautiful cars on the planet for a long time. Admit it. Don't you always look back at it once or twice when you park it somewhere? I know, I do. The NSX can have 1000 hp and be capable of 200+ mph, and it will still "look" faster than it is. It is a "fast looking" ride and that is a problem at times.

There will be a lot of cars faster than it; not the point!

You can't let every nut that pulls along side you at a light, get to you. Look at the NSX ......... wouldn't you want to see what it can do if you pulled up to it?

When I had the FD i would constantly look for NSX to smack up on the freeway.

I've yet to run into one that was stock HP.

Most of them have enough cheap mods to beat a NA2.

And there are a few that run 11's.
