    This made me laugh

So I went to the local honda dealership with my friend (hes looking for a new car) I was looking at the used cars while he talked to the finance people. I come across a RX8 witch I kinda like for a family car, and a sales person comes up to talk to me about the RX8. I always play dumb with dealerships it makes me kinda laugh, but after talking for a min he tells me the RX8 had a V6, and got 25 city, and 31 highway. So I ask him to pop the hood so I could see. He does and I kinda laugh cause its all stock. After that as he is still trying sell me the car makes a lot of bottom end power, and he can chirp the tires in all 6 gears. I just laugh and head back to my friend. Arnt you suspossed to know somthing about the cars you are tring to sell. I dont but it made me laugh last night and I thought I would share this with prime.

    Re: This made me laugh

Yesterday i went to see a car for someone here on prime and when i got to the dealer (it was a bigger Honda dealership) i gave them my name as i made an appointment with someone from sales earlier. The lady from front desk said" Hold on for just one minute, i will get you the person that will be showing you the SNX", after 20 minutes of talking to the sales guy i found out that the last year of production for the NSX was 2007and they had one too !

It amazes me how stupid a lot of these guys are. There are some really good ones, but the majority, not so good.

I had a guy tell me the G37 tell me the car had a special suspension and I could take corners as fast as I wanted and it would never roll. Moron.

He also got offended because I told him I didn't like the nav screen because it was a low res screen and I was used to the high-res screen in the lexus. Douche.

I agree with you on the BMW salesmen. A buddy and I were looking at a 5series for his wife. The salesman was in the passenger seat and slid it all the way back to show how much room there was between the seat and dash.
He said look at how much HEAD room you have in this car: biggrin:

I had a Land Rover/Jaguar salesman trying to sell me a used Disco tell me that it would blow my 'old jeep' out of the water when it came to offroad performance. I was driving my Series III.

No. You don't need to know anything about cars. all you need to know is how to sell.

Apparently you don't even need to know how to do that...

As I was recently unemployed for a few months I thought of going back into the car business as a means to support my family. The interviews were quite surprising.

In the first interview @ a local dealer I was told that the money in car sales was "pretty much gone" due to tough economic conditions.

This was a Honda store located in Boulder, right in the middle of the "cash for clunkers" incentive rush. A dealer selling some of the most efficient, and cleanly manufactured automobiles in the world, on the outskirts of tree-hugger central saying he can't make any money on the product.

I figured this place was ripe to be plucked by a motivated guy like myself.

I came back for the second interview- while I waited to speak to the SM, no less than 3 people came wandering through the showroom. All salespersons sat rooted in their cubicles, and sales management remained behind closed doors in the glass offices. I approached one woman and asked her if I could help. She was interested in the Fit- so I took her to the nearest bored looking "salesman" I saw and woke him up. He then spends 3 minutes telling me that he works "internet sales", but would show her around the Fit until someone else could take her for a drive.

No kidding- they don't even take walk in "ups" anymore. No wonder none of them make any money.

I asked the Sales Manager what he thought of my observation. I didn't get the call for a 3rd interview.

Apparently they aren't looking to actually sell any cars. So weird.
