Okay, I have seen it on all three of the primary 3D projection technologies. (Had to take different friends!)
1. Digital IMAX 3D (regular 3 story screen, but IMAX aspect ratio shape and digital; yellow glasses frames)
2. IMAX 3D (8 story huge screen, but is printed on actual film, not digital; yellow glasses frames)
3. RealD 3D (regular size screen, uses black framed glasses)
The best one (for me) is IMAX 3D. Aside from the ginormous screen, the 3D effect was somewhat more subtle and natural, not as eye straining, and the film's resolution seemed better than the digital projectors, but it could have been due to the screen. This is 70mm film I believe.
RealD 3D had a slightly more pronounced 3D effect that I found was a little more annoying and more "in your face." I think a lot of people who found the 3D effect messed with their eyes should try it on the IMAX screen (the huge one) which I found more pleasant.
Digital IMAX 3D is sort of in-between the two. I did not find it annoying, but the IMAX glasses pinched my head strangely.
