If I'm not mistaken, the bomb was made inert because the "terrorist" was a Terror School Dropout and built a crappy car bomb.

Not to mention leaving his house keys in the car.

You'd think simple revenge would be enacting the same actions onto others that they caused onto you. Hundreds of random individuals walking around Time Square did not attempt to blow his home up with him and his family inside. I'd say 'extreme and illogical distortion' would make more sense than 'turn it upside down'.
