OMG. Are you OK? I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. I hope the harness bar did what it was supposed to do.

Hey Primers,
I recently wrecked a 91 black/black at beaverun motorsports complex..
-you other 91 blk/blk owners. makes yours that much more valuable! =P-
The car rolled over once (180 degrees, ending up on the roof) it was a soft roll, but roll nonetheless. Insurance is paying me handsomely for it (since it's totaled)
I inquired into the buyback and they said it is not a rebuildable car.. only for parts. So I was curious as to whether or not some of you may think it's worth it? they said it's about $6k to buy it back...
I know for sure that I will try to remove my aftermarket exhaust + wheels and replace them with some junkers so I can at least salvage that stuff.
from being flipped back over, rear right suspension collapsed and the control arm is kind of sitting on a wheel. rear hatch is shattered, front windshield is cracked. some of the panels are smashed and what not..
The engine ran briefly for probably about a minute give or take while upside down.. I'm not sure if it's still good, since I haven't been back to try to start it up. I was told not to right away because the oil may have run into the heads and spark plugs. FWIW, the timing belt/water pump only had 4k miles on them. Transmission is not snap ring range and shifted just fine.
Would I be able to recover 6k? does anyone need some parts that I might be missing that would make it worth buying back?
I met someone out there that said he might be willing to pick it up assuming the engine and transmission are still good. I'm going to contact him and let him know how much it'll cost for the buyback to see if he is interested.
Any suggestions or know of any interests in parts? I'd be willing to buyback if I have people seriously interested in some parts...
Thanks Prime

I echo Don's sentaments. How did the roll occure? If the motor/trannie and interior are good you may be looking at about 8k for whatever you could pull and sell, but is it worth that hassle.
Thanks for the concern. Yes, they did job. Held me in tight. Tho, hanging upside down for about a minute was quite a trip.
Basically, the car shot off the road into the grass and up a hill. i guess at the top of the hill, the car, with a lot of momentum still, caught some soft dirt. the wheels on one side dug in real good and managed to tip the car over...
I got my harness bar tho! =D
as far as hassle. Well, it wouldn't be tooo much. just finding a place to store it would be annoying. plus, I'd hate to get it back and have it sit for a while because of lack of interest. I would have plenty of time to pull parts though if need be..
Sorry about your wreck. I guess this is the risk we all take when we track our cars.
But I am very curious about how your insurance handled it. Do you have an on-track rider on your policy? Are you now canceled? Did they give you any problems?

Hey Chops,
I attended one of Beaverun's flat-out days, which is meant to be instructional. They did ask if I was preparing for a racing event, which I was not. It's covered under 'collision' in which I'm paying 2500 out of the settlement value of the car. yes, it is quite hefty =[
They didn't tell me whether or not I was dropped, but I'm assuming no, since I've spoken to them several times already
If you have space to store it, then buying it back for parts sell-off would be worth it. You have a potentially good engine and transmission. That will get most if not all of your $6K back. Then you have all of the other parts that could be useful to NSX owners such as other engine bits, body bits/panels, interior parts/panels, any good suspension parts, etc, etc.
It might take some time to sell everything off.
Also, see if you can negotiate that buy back price down from insurance. Getting it for $4K would really give you some good ROI.

as of now, there's no knowing for sure whether or not the engine will start up. it's kind of a crap shoot, ya know? And I do agree, it might be worth while, but I'm very eager to get my monies together to get ready for my next NSX... which I don't plan on tracking or driving tooo aggressively![]()
I hate to hear stories like this. Makes me think about things I don't want to before my runs. Good to hear noone was hurt.
If you're getting another NSX, the reusable parts could be used on your next one. Happy Motoring!
Glad to hear you are okay. That must have been a harrowing experience for you.
I had my car in for TB/WP at Greenlight and Jerry mentioned that someone had just rolled their car. I was wondering if it was someone on Prime.
Regarding parting out the car. It can be tough to tell if the engine is any good untill you get a really good look at it. Cracks can be hard to detect at first glance along with all the oil and dirt. If you have a place to take it and don't mind continuously taking parts off of it and running to the Post Office then maybe its something to consider.
Best of Luck!

haha, sorry to scare you before your runs =P
Well, my hope is that the next one will not need require anything to replace. (nothing but OE stuff is left on the car)
Does Jerry frequent Beaverun? Heheh, that'd be crazy if someone else at the track that day happens to know someone else on prime.
But would the engine itself sustain that serious of damage from a few bumps here and there?
EDIT:
From the looks of it, insurance is gonna go ahead and take it off my hands.
if anyone is interested, the car is gonna be taken to a salvage yard in PA called Direct Salvage in Adamsburg PA. more than likely (the agent told me) that it will be sold as a parts car to someone/somewhere in an auction or something. maybe I can get it for dirt cheap at the auction? haha.
it would make a good dedicated racecar for someone with the monies...
