    Clunk noise heard from engine

I'd say every 1 out of 10 starts now comes with a double "clunk" noise in between the normal engine start-up. I have had the starter rebuilt last year and the engine seems fine. I don't like hearing new noises especially ones i can't figure out when and if they are to occur. The engine has 220,00kms on it and has never been rebuilt. Last water pump/timing belt was done at 170,000 kms and it does need a valve adjustment as the valves are ticking slightly when the engine is just started and they seem to quieten down once the car is warmed up. Thanks gang for any input as always!

Thanks for that link. Many people seem to associate any clunking from the engine to the motor mounts. I guess with 220,000 kms my mounts may need inspection. What is the life expectancy of a motor mount i wonder?

I jut replaced a motor mount after 150K miles. I never heard any associated "clunking" sound from it though.

Also, only one mount was broken.
