Window regulator woes... I've had it!!

My window regulator woes began roughly 2 weeks ago when, while driving to work, my passenger side window slammed down.

I knew the issue was the plastic cable retaining clip, so Dali racing kindly over nighted the aluminum ones. I removed all door pieces carefully and pulled the window regulator out of the door.

I took the regulator apart to release the cables, which had wound around the plastic pulley inside. The cables were very bent and frayed in places, probably from my attempts to roll the window up after it slammed. I removed the frayed cables and replaced them, which was a bigger pain than I thought.

Thinking I fixed the problem, I reinstalled the regulator in the door, satisfied that my dali fix solved the problem. Upon trying to roll the window up and down, it made a very pitiful sound and wouldn't budge. The guides on the internal pulley were worn down and torn up from previous cable.

Frustrated, I sent my regulator off to Regulatorusa.com for a rebuild. My newly rebuild regulator arrived last night. After driving around with the window wired shut for a week, I was excited to get my rebuilt regulator back on, so I promptly installed it after work.

The moment of truth, after several DIY attempts to rebuilt it (including filing the internal pulley to restore the guides), and finally sending it off to be rebuilt for $85 dollars, I pushed the window button, only to hear that same distinct sound of cable twisting inside the unit, not winding up neatly, but criss-crossing inside the regulator.

At this juncture, I have had it with the window regulator. Luckily I was able to get the window to remain in the up position, but haven't the energy to try fixing it again. Aside from driving my NSX off a cliff or having to buy an entirely new window regulator, what are my options here? Is there anyone in the Atlanta area that can offer any help?

Thanks for reading my long winded post!!

There's always a risk that things won't work when you buy non-OEM parts (or used OEM parts). Sometimes things work out and you save money, but sometimes all you get is headaches and you still have to spend the money for new OEM parts when it's all over.

Whatever you do with your passenger side window, make sure you get and install the fix-it thingie for your driver's side window if it hasn't been done already.

    Good luck.

    Hi Chandler!
I have plenty of solutions for you, but please do not drive your NSX off a cliff!

You bought me a KIT you received the 14th of June, did this happen after you installed it?

    Ok,here 's the solutions:

    - Send me your regulator(s), and I'll fix it for you free or charge, you just pay for the shipment (twice over the Atlantic...)
    - I have a spare regulator I could send you right away, while you try to have a refund for your unhappy rebuilt job or have them correct it.
    - I have a spare internal pulley (core wheel) if you do not wish to give them a 2nd change and just want to solve your problem by yourself...are the cables also damaged?

    Cheers

Way to go Hugo. In fact, I was going to offer Chandler a rebuild too as I have gotten pretty good at it by now.

Take Hugo up on that offer Chandler, he can repair it to better-than-new condition!

    Hugo, you have PM.

Hugo, thank you so much for your offer, in fact, I will be taking you up on it and will post everything on my blog, including before pictures.

Expect a PM from me soon, I'm heading out of the office now. I am continually amazed by the contribution of this forum and community, hopefully I can justify my own existence here as well!

    Thanks again!

You can also ask Ken (ChopsJazz) to help you of course, that might in fact be much faster then a twice-over-the-atlantic shipment times

NSX won't be same without it's NSXPrime community

Re: Window regulator woes... I've had it!!

well as i stated in another post, you get a brand new window regulator gears from a 1993 accord. the plastic wheel that the cable winds around is exactly the same. I had the NSX and 1993 accord gear in my hands and compared them they are exact. now the bend cables, you can use needle nose plyers to bend them back it wont hurt them. but when i first did Hugabugas upgrade with-out his instructions I bent my driver cable and bent the grooves on the gear. so that why i tried the Accord gear and it workes perfect.

I had a spare sitting around. but if you go the junk yard and take the regulator outta a 1993 accord and pry the houseing off and take the gears and put them in your pocket it would cost you nothing as little items like that they dont charge for anyway.

    hope this helps

Re: Window regulator woes... I've had it!!

Me too! Maybe it is an Atlanta thing. I live just south of ATL and now have two, count 'em, two dead window regulators. Can someone let me know if you have the intelligence, and skill to repair them. I know I need the kit for the plastic redux, but I am afraid, the repair is beyond my skill level.

If I could just get the windows and the speakers going, I would be in NSX heaven with my 92 Black on Black.

Thanks in advance for any help

For the speakers, it's actually the amplifiers that go, and they can be refurbished inexpensively. Contact NSXprime username BrianK and/or visit his website here.
