18/19 Tire choices!!!

OK, so I see tire questions posted every day so I thought I would post the available options in one place for people to see -

These are available in:

215/35/18 fronts

265/30/19 or 275/30/19 rears

Remember folks, the "comments" are my own and subjective - I am mostly just listing the fact that they are available.

Herre goes...

(*) are my choices

Summer only -

- Toyo T1-R - Good Value as far as performance/price goes. Excellent in dry conditions, OK in wet. Predictable performance.*

- Goodyear F1 asymmetric - top performer but wears fassst*

- BFG KDW2 - a really good long lasting yet excellent performing tire*

- Yokohama S-Drive - decent performance, great treadwear and good price

- Bridgestone RE760 - high end tire with excellent manners but a little pricey*

- Kumho SPT - very popular choice*

- Dunlop direzza DZ101 - lower end dunlop tire, lasts long but sacrifices grip

- General exclaim - good budget tire (made by conti)

- Nitto nt555 - somewhat decent tire - there are better

- Falken FK452 - decent tire but wears fast for how good it sticks

All season -

- Continental DWS - great price and excellent wet/dry*

- Toyo proxes 4 - decent tire, quiet and decent treadwear*

"Off" brands -

- Fuzion Zri - cheap and pretty good for price (made by bridgestone/firestone)

- Achilles ATR sport - low price and very good*

- Nankang sport NSII - super cheap tire, lasts long but mediocre at best

- Nexen n3000 - lasts forever - some people like them

If I missed any feel free to add them but this is most of what is commonly available.

Hi Angus. Is a 225/35x18 too big for the front? I have 215/35s on CE28Ns and they look really stretched. Thx.

The tire sizes are not different if the car is lowered

I may make a post to list acceptable wheel sizes (THAT does change with lowering)

You can run a 225/35/18 but will run the risk of rubbing and quite possibly damage - while there are those who run them and claim no problem - I have seen more people (including me) who say otherwise and have bodyshop bills to prove it.

If you must, look for a tire that has a wider "rim protector" bead to offset the stretched look.

What tire do you currently have?

What width is your rim?

Have them on my Mazdaspeed and like them a lot as a daily driving tire, however I don't believe they're available in the 18" NSX front tire size.

More specifically, in the rear, I'd recommend 265/30-19 on a '94-05 NSX, and 275/30-19 on a '91-93, since these are the best matches for the TCS.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric is the best tire available in these sizes. Note that if you buy them at the Tire Rack, you have look up the front tires and put them into your cart separately from the rear tires, because they have different speed ratings. (Don't worry, both speed ratings are even higher than that of the stock NSX tires, so that's not a problem.)

Note that summer tires (the ones listed as "summer only") can easily be used in spring and fall, and in winter in warmer parts of the United States. Buddy called Toyo, and the 215s have been discontinued. They are coming out with a T1R replacement later this year.

Looking @ Yokohama S-Drive's, 215/35/18 and 265/30/19.... heard a bit taller then Toyo's in same size. Anyone know if it's significant?

Yoko S Drive: 265/30R19 93Y 01078 XL 300/AA/A 25.50 9.5 9.0 - 10.0

Only .10 Inflated Dimension diff.

I would go with S Drive

You're comparing rear 18" tire to a rear 19" tire here. I don't think that's what he was asking for..

I think he was asking to compare a Yokohama S-Drive 215/35/18 tire diameter to a Toyo T1R 215/35/18 tire (and the same for the 265/30/19 size).

Yoko S-Drive 215/35/18 diameter is: 23.9"
Toyo T1R 215/35/18 diameter is: (tire is not currently available)

Yoko S-Drive 265/30/19 diameter is: 25.3"
Toyo T1R 265/30/19 diameter is: 25.4"

The BFG KDW is very wide for it's size, wider than 265 PS2 for sure.

If anything I'd say the S-drive is wider by alot but not taller -

(I had T1R's on my Toyota and changed to S-drives)

Just wanted to bump this great thread and give a little input.

I have Bridgestone RE760 on the NSX - 275/30 and 215/35 - great tires

I have Nexen N3000 on my daily drivers (330i and G37s) - great budget tires especially for daily drivers and yes, they seem to last forever!
