I am very excited to hear Andrews stories about the Targa!
In keeping with tradition to bring something new to Est Fest, we have the good fortune (with help from swbatte) for Corporal Andrew Knisley, accepting our invitation as our guest speaker for the weekend.
In September 2010, Corporal Knisley (and his co-pilot Master Corporal Jody Mitic) participated in their first Targa Newfoundland race and placed 7th overall and 1st in its class. The amazing thing was their accomplishments came with just one leg and 3 good arms driving a hardly modified Acura TLS sponsored by Acura Canada.
Both Knisley and Mitic are Canadian Forces veterans injured in the war in Afghanistan. The race was their quest to raise funds and spread awareness for the Soldier On program for wounded vets. It is their way to give back to the people who helped them get back on their feet. They are looking to continue raising awareness for Soldier On and will again participate in the 2011 Targa Newfoundland race hoping to improve on their efforts.
To give everyone a better understanding of the Targa Newfoundland race, and gain more insight about our guest and his road to recovery, we have included two videos on the attached link.

Great info Daria. These guys are inspiration to many of us and have made us proud in both their military service and at Targa Newfoundland. How they manage to win their class in pretty much a stock TLSH is beyond believe. It must be an exciting journey participating in the race.
