Full Detail Paint Correction 1994 Red NSX - 17 hours

Let me start by saying I am not a professional but I have been detailing and correcting the paint of all of my vehicles for years. When I saw Eric's 1994 NSX "Sublyminal" here on Prime, I saw it needed a proper detailing/paint correction. He said he was going to take it to the body shop so they could buff it out but knowing what body shops do, I couldn't let them hack his baby any more.

Most body shops would just buff it out with a rotary Makita buffer using a 3M commercial compound then wax it but Eric's Car needed much much more than that. Prior to Eric purchasing the car, it had RIDs, Halograms and Scratches.

I did not take many of photos and the photos I did take are not professional. I used my camera phone so bare with me as I try to tell my story.

Below are the steps and the products that I used.

    Pre Wash
    - Gilmer Foam Gun
    - Chemical Brothers Citrus Wash

    Wash
    - Two Bucket Method w/Grit Guard Insert
    - Sheepskin Wash Mitt
    - Meguiar’s Gold Class car wash soap
    - Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner

    Drying
    - Waffle Weave Drying Towel
    - Electric Leaf Blower
    - MF Towels

    Claying
    - Meguiar’s Magic Clay Bar
    - Meguiar’s Quick Detailer

    Wipe Down
    - Isopropyl Alcohol/Distilled Water 1:1 Alcohol Wipe Down

    Compound
    - Meguiar’s M105 x3
    - Poorboy’s SSR 2.5 x1

    Polish
    - Meguiar’s M205 x2
    - Menzerna Intensive Polish x1

    Sealant/Glaze
    - Menzerna Full Molecular Jacket x1
    - Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze x 3 coats (24 hour curing time)

    Wax
    - Collinite No. 845 Insulator Wax x1
    - Collinite No. 915 Marque D'Elegance Last Step Concours Paste Wax x2

    Final Wipe Down
    - Distilled Water

    Buffer
    - Flex 3401 VRG Dual Action

As I was working on the NSX, Todd "OKI BOY" stopped by to take a few photos.

It has been so cloudy out so when the sun decides to make an appearance again, I will get more detailed finished photos.

    Nice job!

The meguiars 105/205 is a truly amazing combo! The 105 leaves very light compounding holograms with a light compounding pad(lake country ccs orange) and can take out even the deepest swirl marks. Then the 205 with a lake country black finishing pad completely restores the finish to a flawless high gloss. The only thing I dont like is how fast the 105 dries and how much it dusts.

    You are correct

You can see in the photo with the 3 NSXs in the garage, the amount of dust around Eric's car. I now have to mop my garage floor this weekend. Another 2.5 hour process!

WOW I counted 14 steps in compound/polis/wax alone.
Those black wheels with the red lip are dope!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, I hate to tell you but someone stole all the stuff out of your garage!
The bikes, fishing poles, lawn mower, motor cycle......Jeeze, they even got the rakes and riding tractor.

The difficult part of detailing is the M105/M205. They require the most time. You will do most of your paint correction done with this formula. Once you pass this part, they rest of the polishing gets easier.

The motorcycle is to the left of Eric's car in some of the photos.

I like my garages clean. I have another 2 car garage across the courtyard. All of my tools and such are in the room at the back of the 3 car garage. You can see the open door. On top of that room is additional storage for those spare NSX parts

You can do this yourself. It just takes time and patience.

You can buy a Porter Cable 7424XP buffer (hard to damage paint with this)

and some good products and start slow and work your way up

I have a few hundred in products being used but I only used 1/5 at the most of any one product. Nothing too bad.

    Question:

Are there any do's and don'ts about using
Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze on the paint?
    Or other acyrilic polumers?

Re: Full Detail Paint Correction 1994 Red NSX - 17 hours

The secret with using Klasse Sealant/Glaze is use a very small amount to do the entire car. Maybe a cap full will do your entire car. Much like other acrylic polymers the secret is to let is cure for 12-24 hours per coat.

If you find it difficult removing the Klasse Sealant, use distilled water in a spray bottle along with a MF towel. If you are having a really hard time, then you applied it too thick.

Remember this stuff likes to go on thin!

Ok, so the Klasse goes on after the surface is super clean and before the wax. Question: Does the Klasse ever go off color? - or would you need to strip all the way down [take off all wax] and refresh the Klasse coat every year or so [ with more klasse]?

I have Klasse on my wheels and so far it is amazing at shedding brake dust.

+1 on the Megs 105/205, great combo for a car that has a problem finish but you are SO right about the dust and the "caking" if you let it dry too long. Have you tried the Megs DA Microfiber Polishing System? Absolutely unbelievable, the only fault I've found is that the D301 Finishing Wax isn't as good a LSP as I would like but it's pretty amazing for the amount of effort that one has to expend. Highly recommended---

I would use the silver Klasse (sealant) only if I strip all of my protection off and start from the beginning. If I am just touching up, I would use the red bottle which is the klasse All In One.

I might try it, I speak to the Megs guys all of the time but they haven't mentioned this system to me.

I am always willing to try new products! Thank you for suggesting
