Full cage & door weight saving

Next month I will have a custom full cage built in my (track only) NSX. So I hesitate to save weight by cutting the inner panel of my door and the reinforcement bar inside. What do you think in term of security ? What is the weight that can be saved ? I will not do this if it is for 1 or 2 lbs.

    Thanks.

You can carefully remove the door panels and weigh them to find out how much you would save by removal. If you are having a full cage put in, you should have all the security you need. I would just always recommend a window cage to prevent injury just encase of a roll over. Most circuits require these; however it is amazing how many people don't realize how easy it is to roll a car. I would check out some of the weight saving threads for more details on what can be removed safely. Check out this one:

However, most of these threads are not for dedicated track cars. You will mostly benefit from weight that is up higher than you center of mass. GL and post some pictures. Thanks

When I said "cutting the inner panel" I meant grinding the aluminium and eliminate the reinforcement bar in the door. But I do not know how much weight it represents.

    Thanks

It seems like it would be hard to install a cage that included any "nascar bars" without intruding into the door some. Are you certain gutting the door(s) won't be necessary to accommodate the cage (regardless of weight savings or not)?

I think the cage will be close looking from the one made by Heigo for Austrian Type-R.
