or you can use Painter tape, leaves no marks on the paint and is super thick. I just had a friend do his whole front of the car for a long drive cross country,

it cost 1.30 a roll and you can keep it in your trunk for years.

OP was looking for an alternative. Painters tape also has a higher tack to it, BAD idea for anyone with fresh paint to do. The 3M film I use is wider strips, much faster to apply and remove, and provides much mo protection IMO.
