Old and New Bilstein Rear Shocks Mechanically/Performance Difference?

    Hi All,

The pics below show physical differences between the new and old part number rear Bilstein shocks for the NSX. Apart from the physical differences, would they be mechanically different or perform differently?

If the new one is the one on the right in the second picture I would say the addition of a larger stronger weld to be a good thing but appears they went to a plastic strut cap. So I'd say there's little if any difference worth discussing. I simarly doubt the calving would be different since our cars are roughly all the same as well.
I cannot Comment on the princess dry erase board. It looks to be original.

how its welded doesn't make a difference, as long as it is welded properly. new seems slightly larger, am i right? it may just be a thicker case, not so much bigger internals. larger bumpstops as well... explains why mine take bumps so badly vs. reviews i have read. shouldn't be a problem on stock height, though. i want to trim the bumpstops, actually... but i'd have to take it apart again.

yep, the new one is the one on the right.

Not a chinese copy. the one one the right just is a newer model and part number.

Does this mean they can provide replacement bushings now?

I do have to say Bilstein's customer service isn't the greatest, same goes for Tein... but pretty much the same as every company out there these days, quick to sell but lack greatly on customer service end.

I never sorted out the bushing problem they were of no help at all, other than sending me an engineering drawing of the part.

Why does the rubber part at the top look like a penis?

I don't know what you compare it to but that would be a very short one.

They're actually both made in Germany......guess it's just a new model, either better or cheaper to make.

You're right, if it would have been a chinese copy it would have looked 100% like the original one, well, on the outside.

I don't think it's better but certainly cheaper to make. But the main disadvantage is still there. Where all the others went to aluminium bodies Bilsteins are still lightyears behind with their steel ones.
